Interest in Jose Mourinho’s next job is on the increase with two very different propositions reportedly in the pipeline for the former Manchester United manager.

The surprise contender in the race to hire the Portuguese is Scottish champions Celtic, who have supposedly identified Mourinho as the man to help them make strides in Europe.

The Bhoys have just clinched their eighth successive league title but have fallen behind the standard on Europe’s biggest stage, failing to qualify for this season’s Champions League.

Brendan Rodgers, who left Celtic to take over at Leicester earlier this year, had guided the Glasgow outfit into the Champions League group stages in his first season in charge, but they were routinely beaten by wide margins.

Mourinho, a two-time winner of the Champions League with Porto and Inter Milan, could be better placed to help the club make advances in Europe’s premier club competition, and Celtic fans are already getting excited at the prospect of ‘The Special One’ arriving in Glasgow.

Huge Odds Swing in Next Celtic Boss Market

The odds have seen an enormous swing too. Mourinho was as long as 25/1 (+2500) last week but has been repeatedly cut and now sits as 5/2 (+250) second favourite behind interim manager Neil Lennon.

As rumours and betting interest in Mourinho to Celtic intensifies, other candidates have seen their odds drift, with Rafael Benitez – another rumoured big-name target – now a 7/1 (+700) outsider.

All that being said, there is still some doubt among sportsbook traders that Mourinho’s stock has fallen this low having been sacked for underperformance at his last two roles with Chelsea and Man Utd respectively.

Current Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel is under pressure having limped out of the Champions League against a poor Man Utd side, before losing the French Cup final on penalties to Rennes.

He has delivered another Ligue 1 title for the dominant force in French football, but PSG are eager to make a greater impact in the Champions League, which is perhaps why Mourinho is 11/8 (+138) to be their next manager.

With an implied probability of 42.1% against a 28.6% chance, the betting odds suggest PSG is a much more likely destination for Mourinho than Parkhead.
