Daniel Jacobs’ odds to beat Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez are beginning to drift ahead of arguably the biggest boxing bout of 2019 this weekend.

The Brooklyn native does not appear to have the backing of bettors ahead of his Las Vegas showdown with Mexican superstar Canelo, who is well supported in boxing betting circles.

In the build-up to the fight at the T-Mobile Arena, sportsbooks have cut Canelo’s odds to win from 1/4 (-400) to 2/9 (-450), giving an implied probability of 81.8% on an Alvarez win.

The bulk of the money going on Canelo appears to be on the widely tipped outcome of a points victory for the favorite, which has been trimmed from 5/6 (-120) to 4/5 (-125) with Bet365.

Jacobs, the naturally bigger man, displayed a robust chin when losing to Canelo’s nemesis Gennady Golovkin in 2017, when GGG was undoubtedly the biggest puncher in the middleweight division, so Alvarez’s chances of earning a knock-out win are odds-against at 11/4 (+275).

Canelo has established himself as the man to beat at middleweight, having defeated Golovkin with a Majority Decision win in Vegas last September, albeit in subjective fashion.

Canelo Wants To Unify Division

Jacobs currently holds the only middleweight belt not in Canelo’s possession, the IBF title, and the Mexican favorite has vowed to unify the division on the weekend of Cinco de Mayo.

"I will unify my middleweight titles against Daniel Jacobs on one of the two most important dates that belong to me," the 28-year-old told Sky Sports, who will broadcast the fight in the UK.

"I have no doubt that I will be victorious and that I'll be one step away from becoming the undisputed middleweight world champion."

For Jacobs, the 32-year-old believes this is his shot at ‘greatness’ and is bullish as he looks to upset the odds.

"This is the opportunity I have been waiting for. The opportunity to achieve greatness inside the ring," said Jacobs.

"It's been nearly four years since Canelo has faced an American challenger. It's going to be a huge event where I believe I will cement myself as the best middleweight in the division."
