Nashville Predators center Steven Stamkos could be one of the top hockey players on the move ahead of this year’s NHL Trade Deadline. He has had a strong year to date with 21 goals in 49 games, and the Predators could decide to deal him and cash in on what appears to be a weak crop of forwards who are available for Stanley Cup contenders to trade for this year.

Stamkos is under contract for this season plus two additional years at an $8 million salary. Because of that salary, the Predators would likely have to use their final retention slot to maximize his trade value. If they decide it’s worth doing that, then they could land a nice return for the veteran.

Stamkos has had a strong season, surging along with the team, and keeping him on their roster makes the Predators a better team now. New Jersey Devils (+300)

The New Jersey Devils have been disappointing this year, as the team currently sits on the outside of the playoffs looking in, and fans are restless as they want general manager Tom Fitzgerald to make trades. If the Devils were to pick up Stamkos, it could give them the boost that they need.

Tampa Bay Lightning (+450)

The Tampa Bay Lightning were Stamkos’ home for the first 16 years of his NHL career before he signed with the Predators as a free agent two years ago. He won two Stanley Cups with the Lightning, and with the team once again a serious threat to win it all this year, it would make sense to pick up some additional talent at the deadline. Stamkos could qualify (assuming that Tampa Bay can find a way to fit him under its salary cap).

Detroit Red Wings (+600)

The Detroit Red Wings have been one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference this year after several years of missing out on the playoffs. The Wings will likely try to add some reinforcements at the trade deadline, and picking up someone like Stamkos would qualify. Though they are in a playoff spot today, the Wings are still +6500 longshots at DraftKings Sportsbook to win the Stanley Cup.

Toronto Maple Leafs (+700)

The Toronto Maple Leafs are Stamkos’ hometown team, and he has been linked to joining them in the past. While the Leafs did not sign him when he had hit free agency before, it is possible the team could try to swing a trade with the Predators to acquire him this year.

The Field (+900)

Stamkos will be one of the top players available at the trade deadline if the Predators put him on the trade block, so the field is certainly an option to acquire him if the Preds decide to deal him.
