Top 5 Prediction Market Apps for January 8, 2026

Prediction markets moved into the sports event contract space a year ago, when Kalshi self-certified itself to make Big-Game-related trades ahead of the Super Bowl. What are the best prediction markets? Let’s take a look.

First, let’s talk about prediction markets. With Super Bowl 60 just a month away, multiple prediction markets are available for traders to engage in both sports event contracts and thousands of other markets. Those include politics, economics, financial markets, cultural events, world events, weather, and commodity prices.

Unlike the best sports betting apps, prediction markets operate under the regulatory arm of the Commodities Futures Trading Corporation, a federal agency. Online legal sports books, meanwhile, face a state-by-state regulatory map. And while sports books pay a percentage of their net winnings in state taxes, prediction markets pay no such state or local taxes or fees.

That savings, however, isn’t always passed on to customers. Market makers and trader usually bid up or down markets so that there’s no advantage or disadvantage between the current price in a sport-related trade, and the same move as a bet on a sports book. According to data from Citizens, that spread moved toward the sportsbook’s favor during the football season.

As always, shop around for the best possible price on your trade/wager of choice.

What Are The Best Prediction Markets?

This answer lies on one’s personal preferences. Let’s look at some industry leaders.

Kalshi

First launched in 2021, Kalshi emerged as a leader in the prediction market space ahead of the 2024 U.S. presidential election. The site then took off as it began offering sports event contracts ahead of the 2025 Super Bowl. Just this week, the company’s CEO said the platform has reached $100 billion in volume. Kalshi’s size and breadth mean it offers the most markets – especially when it comes to sports – of any prediction market fully available in the United States. Kalshi accepts payment from traditional banks, credit, and crypto (limited in the U.S.). It offers interest on money being held. Payment is usually credited in 1 or 2 business days.

Polymarket

The platform began a limited launch in the United States late last year. While it, too, offers thousands of markets daily in the same multitude of areas as Kalshi, it is not yet fully available to everyone in the U.S., and it continues to operate using only crypto. Polymarket remains the leader is large-volume trades, because of its crypto basis, and in live-event related trades.

Novig

New York–based Novig — a nod to its no-vig model — operates a peer-to-peer sports prediction platform that allows users to trade directly against one another rather than a traditional sportsbook. Players can participate using Novig Coins, which are free-to-play and unredeemable, or Novig Cash, which can be cashed out for real money. The mobile app currently offers markets across the NFL, NBA, WNBA, and MLB.

ProphetX

Like Novig, ProphetX follows a sweepstakes-based model. It uses a “dual-currency” model in which users can use free coins, or purchase “Golden Coins,” which can be converted to cash. ProphetX applied to the CFTC last year to be certified as a prediction market exchange, similar to Kalshi, Robinhood, and Polymarket. It offers a full menu of sports-related trades.

Fanatics Markets

The sportsbook operator launched its trading platform in 2025. It has a similar look and user experience to the Fanatics Sportsbook. It offers a deeper menu of trades and markets than the DraftKings Predictions and FanDuel Predicts platforms launched in December. Fanatics and DraftKings offer sports event contracts in California and Texas, the two largest states in the U.S., without legal sports betting.

Robinhood

Best for users already on the Robinhood brokerage. It offers many of the same markets available at Polymarket and Kalshi, alongside the ability to trade in traditional stocks and options.

What Prediction Market Should I Use

That remains dependent on the markets in which you trade. If you’re looking for simply another option for sports betting, just shop around for the best price on each trade. Many sites offer signup bonuses, and market inconsistencies are plentiful. Both DraftKings and Fanatics accept traditional forms of payment and pay out in less than a day. FanDuel’s prediction site is only up in 5 states, but plans to expand later this year.
