Trey Hendrickson officially hit the NFL open market after the Cincinnati Bengals declined to use the franchise tag, ending a lengthy contract standoff and making him one of the top edge rushers available. The Indianapolis Colts sit atop the board because ESPN’s contract projections have linked Hendrickson to Indianapolis as a reunion with former Bengals DC Lou Anarumo.

The Dallas Cowboys remain a major contender as well, with ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler indicating the Cowboys have monitored Hendrickson and are expected to pursue him.

Meanwhile, a couple of your earlier “usual suspects” have cooled: the Baltimore Ravens effectively exited this lane after trading for Maxx Crosby, and the Washington Commanders just spent big on edge help with Odafe Oweh, shrinking the Hendrickson fit there.

Indianapolis Colts (+350)

The Indianapolis Colts were one of the best teams in the NFL during the first half of last season, but they fell apart in the second half and missed out on the playoffs. They will be looking to improve all over the field, and acquiring a stud EDGE like Hendrickson would be huge for them.

Dallas Cowboys (+450)

The Dallas Cowboys had a highly disappointing season as the team missed the playoffs after trading away star EDGE Micah Parsons. They need to improve at that position, and signing Hendrickson as a free agent would be a huge boost.

Los Angeles Chargers (+550)

The Los Angeles Chargers made the playoffs this past season, but after losing in the first round, they clearly need to make some changes. If they were able to improve their defense, perhaps another postseason run could be deeper this time, and Hendrickson would certainly help them in that regard.

New England Patriots (+650)

The New England Patriots are coming off a terrific season where they went to the Super Bowl, though they lost to the Seattle Seahawks. The Patriots are looking to improve on both sides of the ball and make another deep postseason run in 2026, and getting Hendrickson would help with that.

Detroit Lions (+900)

The Detroit Lions missed the playoffs this past season, and they have already made several changes to their roster so far this offseason. To improve their defensive unit and get back to the postseason, the Lions could hit up Hendrickson and see if he wants to join their team.

San Francisco 49ers (+1100)

The San Francisco 49ers are a fantastic team and are coming off another playoff run. But the franchise hasn't won the Big Game in many years, and to get the job done, they will need to keep improving their squad. Picking up Hendrickson would certainly help with that.

Seattle Seahawks (+1300)

The Seattle Seahawks just won the Super Bowl. But instead of sitting on the sidelines and letting other teams get better, the Seahawks could turn to Hendrickson as a way to improve their already-stellar defensive line.

The Field (any other team) (+1300)

Hendrickson is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL, so if he does hit free agency, then The Field will be a viable option to get him, as most teams in the league could use him. While Hendrickson did have a down year, he has been one of the league’s top defensive linemen for several years now, so we expect him to get serious interest on the free-agent market.
