It’s not quite the halfway point of the 2021 NFL season, but Week 8 might be Separation Sunday for several NFC playoff contenders. It’s setting up as an intriguing NFL betting week as well with some huge NFL Week 8 odds at betting sites.

Tiebreakers often play a part in the race for a playoff spot, and teams could look back to this week as a make-or-break weekend. NFC South contenders face off in the Big Easy when Jameis Winston and the New Orleans Saints host Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Minnesota Vikings host the Dallas Cowboys in a pair of high-scoring contenders, too.

Results in games featuring the 49ers vs. Bears and Panthers vs. Falcons could be the difference when we’re heading into Week 18. Before we tackle NFL picks for the week, let’s take a deeper look at the NFL Week 8 odds.

Note: Cardinals closed as 6-point favorites for Thursday Night Football against the Packers. Green Bay won at Arizona by a field goal.

Sunday, Oct. 31

Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns (-4), 1 p.m. ET

The Steelers are finding themselves, and it starts and begins on offense with rookie RB Najee Harris. They’re 2-1 when Harris gets at least 22 touches. The defense has allowed 16-20 points in wins and 24-27 in losses.

Injuries crushed the Browns’ offensive depth lately, but it didn’t stop them from being the Broncos 17-14 on a short week. With a longer break following the Week 7 Thursday win, perhaps Nick Chubb and both offensive tackles could be on the return (QB Baker Mayfield and RB Kareem Hunt are on the shelf for a longer period). Fortunately, the defense has put pressure on QBs, ranking in the top two in QB hurries and knockdowns.

Take a look at Steelers vs Browns odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Philadelphia Eagles (-3.5) at Detroit Lions, 1 p.m. ET

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts faced the NFL’s worst-ranked pass defense two weeks ago and went 12-of-26 for 115 yards in a home loss to the Buccaneers. It didn’t go much better in Week 7. He had 62 passing yards at halftime before filling the stat sheet late in a 33-22 loss to the Raiders (it was 30-7 at one point). A defense that ranked top-5 vs. the pass got lit up by Derek Carr. If Philly is to bounce back this season, it begins here.

The Lions showed heart in Week 7 against a strong Rams team, even leading 10-0 to start the game. It didn’t hold up in a 28-19 loss as they remained the lone winless team in the NFL. Jared Goff has the lowest QBR of any starter that isn’t a rookie, and the offense hasn’t scored more than 19 points since Week 1.

Take a look at Eagles vs Lions odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons (-3), 1 p.m. ET

Carolina’s defense, which ranked No. 2 in yards allowed going into Week 6, surrendered 571 yards to the Vikings in a home OT loss in Week 6 and didn’t fare a ton better in a Week 7, 25-3 loss to the Giants. That said, the offense was a total disaster, amassing just 173 total yards against a defense that allowed over 500 the week prior. Sam Darnold now has seven TDs with eight INTs, and star RB Christian McCaffrey is out at least two more weeks.

The last time the Falcons defense ranked higher than their offense was 2004. But that’s where Atlanta sits now; the defense has been more consistent than an offense. The offense has shown signs of catching up; it accounted for 336 yards in a 30-28 win at Miami in Week 7. Matt Ryan has 10 TDs and one INT over the last four games, three of which were wins.

Take a look at Panthers vs Falcons odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

San Francisco 49ers (-4) at Chicago Bears, 1 p.m. ET

The 49ers are just 2-4 on the season, though their first three losses were all single-possession games. Not the case in Week 7, a 30-18 home setback to an under-.500 Colts squad. Jimmy Garoppolo had two INTs, but that was in torrid rain conditions, and he’s still 26-11 all-time as a starter. Couple that with a defense that’s allowed 304 or fewer yards in three straight games, and the Niners should be in more games than they’re not.

Chicago’s defense allowed under 10 ppg the last three weeks before Aaron Rodgers accounted for three TDs in a 24-14 Packers win at Soldier Field in Week 6. But that defense had no answers for Tom Brady and the Buccaneers; Tampa Bay led 35-3 at halftime. The Bears do need better play from rookie QB Justin Fields, who ranks last in QB Rating among regular starters and was brutal (184 yards, zero TDs, three INTs) vs. one of the NFL’s worst-ranked pass defenses.

Take a look at 49ers vs Bears odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Los Angeles Rams (-16) at Houston Texans, 1 p.m. ET

Matthew Stafford is flourishing on a team that has a defense to support his scoring efforts. His completion percentage and yards per attempt averages are easily the highest of his 12-year career. He passed for 334 yards and three TDs as the Rams beat his former Lions team 28-19. L.A. is now 6-1 – those six victories are more than he won on any Lions team since 2017.

This is a daunting matchup for the struggling Texans, but they’ve played far better at home than on the road. Houston is 1-2 in front of its own fans, and nearly downed the Patriots in a 25-22 defeat. The Texans’ 15th-ranked pass defense has been a highlight. An offense that’s been held to under 200 yards in three out of seven games isn’t.

Take a look at Rams vs Texans odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Cincinnati Bengals (-11) at New York Jets, 1 p.m. ET

The Bengals took the Ravens to school in a 41-17 mauling in Baltimore, inserting themselves as the favorites to win the tough AFC North. Joe Burrow 6 yards, three TDs) and Ja’Marr Chase (8 catches, 201 yards) were unstoppable as the offense accounted for 520 yards. Just as impressive, a top-10 defense kept Lamar Jackson and the Ravens to a season-low in points.

The Jets were totally uncompetitive in a 54-13 loss at New England in Week 7. The defense allowed 411 points, but three turnovers was too much. Now they must forge on without rookie QB Zach Wilson, out 2-4 weeks after a knee injury sustained in Week 7. The team traded for Joe Flacco on Monday, and he could immediately be inserted into the lineup. New York still ranks in the bottom four in both rushing and passing.

Take a look at Bengals vs Jets odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills (-14), 1 p.m. ET

Tua Tagovailoa was solid enough in his return to the lineup after a month off, leading the offense to its best output of the season. It didn’t matter as Miami still lost to winless Jacksonville in Week 6. Tua did his job again in Week 7 as Miami accounted for 413 yards and 28 points. Again, not enough in a 30-28 loss to the Falcons. The defense rank in the bottom-five in points and yards allowed.

For five consecutive weeks the Bills looked unbeatable. Then they got beat. Now they come off their bye week with a renewed focus to face a Dolphins team it’s beaten six straight times, the last two meetings by 30 and 35 points.

Take a look at Bills vs Dolphins odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Tennessee Titans at Indianapolis Colts (-2.5), 1 p.m. ET

The Titans served notice to the rest of the AFC that they’re a real contender. One week after beating the powerhouse Bills, Tennessee dismantled the Chiefs for a 27-3 home victory – and Derrick Henry didn’t even score (though he did pass for a TD). The Titans defense, once a source of major questions, forced three turnovers and held a top-five offense out of the end zone. The Titans have won three of four vs. the Colts.

The Colts are 3-4 through seven weeks but have the game of a playoff squad right now after getting past the 49ers in San Francisco in Week 7 for their third win in four games. Carson Wentz, who led the NFL in INTs in 2020, has just one pick in seven games. Indy can avenge a Week 3 loss here, a game in which they trailed 14-13 going into the fourth quarter and Wentz had zero TDs while Ryan Tannehill had three.

Take a look at Titans vs Colts odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Seattle Seahawks (-4), 4:05 p.m. ET

Trevor Lawrence and Urban Meyer finally got their first win in Jaguars uniforms. The ultra-successful college QB/coach edged the Dolphins 23-20 in London for Week 6 and had a full bye week to hone in on what got them over the edge here. Can they win two straight after a 20-game losing streak? Seattle’s defense has allowed more yards than any and Russell Wilson remains out.

Geno Smith was serviceable in his first start as replacement for Russell Wilson, but a critical turnover in OT and a lack of big plays (6.5 yards per attempt) cost them in a 23-20 loss at Pittsburgh. He was just as so-so in Monday’s 17-14 home loss to the Saints. Seattle’s defense made leaps the last two weeks, holding Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger to 229 yards and the Saints to 304 total yards.

Take a look at Jaguars vs Seahawks odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

New England Patriots at Los Angeles Chargers (-4), 4:05 p.m. ET

The struggling Patriots offense took some frustrations out on the downtrodden Jets in a 54-13 blowout win in Week 7. Three pass-throwers combined for 411 yards, three TDs and no INTs and the rushing game scored four times. The team also won the turnover battle 3-0. They were averaging 20.1 ppg prior to that one.

The surging Chargers got a wake-up call in Week 6 when they were dismantled 34-6 by the Ravens. The the hiccup was a big surprise for Justin Herbert and the high-powered Chargers offense, it highlighted a big red flag on the other side of the ball. L.A. owns the last-ranked run defense in the NFL.

Take a look at Patriots vs Chargers odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Washington Football Team at Denver Broncos (-3.5), 4:25 p.m. ET

Last season, Washington ranked No. 1 in the NFL in pass defense and No. 5 in fewest points allowed. What a turnaround. No team has allowed more passing yards or points than this one. The unit just got mauled for 397 pass yards vs. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in Week 6 and couldn’t contain Aaron Rodgers in a 24-10 loss in Week 7. The offense moved the ball for 430 yards at Green Bay but turnovers and lack of playmaking was too much to overcome in a 24-10 defeat.

Denver’s early season momentum has totally crashed. The Broncos have now lost four straight after falling to the short-handed Browns 17-14 last Thursday, this after getting rolled at home by the Raiders the week prior. Teddy Bridgewater averaged just 5.7 yards per attempt, and Denver again lost the turnover battle. A Broncos defense that ranked in the top 6 vs. both the run and the pass couldn’t stop enough a Browns offense that was missing its QB, top two RBs and both tackles.

Take a look at Washington vs Broncos odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-4) at New Orleans Saints, 4:25 p.m. ET

Tom Brady and the Buccaneers offense is humming along. They own the NFL’s No. 1 pass attack; he was averaging 344 yards through the air before holding back in a 211-yard effort vs. Chicago. Don’t get too concerned; he had four TDs, including his 600th, in a 38-3 rout. The defense isn’t too bad, either. After a rough start to the year, Tampa Bay has allowed 311 or fewer total yards in each of the past four weeks.

A lack of passing prowess hasn’t hampered the overall output of the Saints offense. Jameis Winston and New Orleans ranks 31st in passing, but 17th in scoring at 25.4 ppg. Winston, once a high-turnover QB, has 13 TDs to just three INTs.

Take a look at Saints vs Buccaneers odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Dallas Cowboys (-2.5) at Minnesota Vikings, 8:20 p.m. ET

The Cowboys entered Week 8 off their bye week at 5-1 and in first command of the NFC East. No offense has moved the ball better and no team has covered the spread in every game, either. It’s tough to match up with an offense that has a QB (Dak Prescott) who has thrown 16 TDs and a run game that’s averaging 5.1 yards per carry.

Hard-luck losses are turning into clutch victories for the Vikings, who dropped consecutive games on last-play FGs and a 14-7 home decision. They come off their bye with a two-game win streak, each achieved on the game’s final play.

Take a look at Cowboys vs Vikings odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Monday, Nov. 1

New York Giants at Kansas City Chiefs (-10), 8:15 p.m. ET

The Giants defense was allowing over 400 yards per game before holding the Panthers to just 173 total yards in a thorough 25-3 win at home in Week 7. New York’s defense has forced at least one turnover in every game. The offense is still lacking in explosiveness without Saquon Barkley and two of its top three WRs, but the team didn’t commit a turnover.

Injury was added to insult in a 27-3 beatdown at the hands of the Titans. The offense couldn’t muster much, and Patrick Mahomes was knocked out of the game late. Mahomes is expected to be fine for next week, but he’s not playing well, tied for the NFL lead in interceptions. The defending AFC champions are sitting in last place in the AFC West.

Take a look at Giants vs Chiefs odds, injury report, betting lines and more.
