With that in mind, the team at Bookies.com compiled some hypothetical odds on potential replacements for the man that went 20-40-1 (.336) with the club, with a host of NFL assistants and former head coaches atop our list.

Mike McCarthy (Former Cowboys, Packers coach): +475
The former Super Bowl champion with the Green Bay Packers has been out of coaching this year after getting fired by the Dallas Cowboys, who he coached to a 49-35 (.583) record between 2020 and 2024.
McCarthy’s all-time record as an NFL head coach is equally impressive, going 174-112-2 (.608) with Green Bay and Dallas over the course of 18 seasons, which could net him a third crack at a head coaching role before long.
Given his success in Dallas and Green Bay, we’re giving the 62-year-old Pennsylvania native the top odds of any candidate at replacing Daboll, checking in at +475 and ranking ahead of a host of up-and-coming coordinators.
Chris Shula (Rams defensive coordinator): +550
The grandson of legendary Miami Dolphins head coach Don Shula has served a host of assistant coaching roles with the then-San Diego Chargers and Los Angeles Rams since 2015, with the 39-year-old being elevated to defensive coordinator under head coach Sean McVay with the Rams in 2024.
Since Shula replaced Raheem Morris in that capacity, he’s overseen a defensive renaissance in Inglewood, with the Rams ranking third in terms of points allowed (after ranking 17th last year and 19th in 2023) and 13th in terms of yards per game allowed (up from 17th last year and 19th in 2023).
Given his career ascendance under McVay’s watch and his connections to one of the games greatest coaches, we’re giving Shula the inside track at the Giants opening, with +550 odds of replacing Daboll, ranking second overall behind McCarthy and ahead of several other coordinators in the league.
Steve Spagnuolo (Chiefs defensive coordinator): +600
The 65-year-old has actually served as the head coach of the Giants before, doing so on an interim basis in 2017 when head coach Ben McAdoo was fired midseason.
Since arriving in Kansas City in 2019, Spagnuolo has overseen one of the league’s fiercest defenses, helping guide the Chiefs to three Super Bowls and five Big Games in total, while potentially earning him a second go-round as an NFL head coach.
While Spagnuolo’s first go-round as a coach didn’t end well, with a 10-38 (.208) record with the then-St. Louis Rams from 2009 to 2011, his work under Andy Reid in K.C. might be enough to earn him another crack at it, with +600 odds of replacing Daboll in New York.
Helping the Giants to 2 titles as defensive coordinator also has long made Spags a fan favorite in NY.

Klint Kubiak (Seahawks offensive coordinator): +1100
The son of former NFL quarterback and head coach Gary Kubiak has made his way up the coaching ranks from being a graduate assistant at Texas A&M to being the Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator in a mere decade-and-a-half, potentially lining the 38-year-old up for his first NFL head coaching role.
The second-year NFL offensive coordinator cut his teeth with a host of NCAA and NFL teams, entering the league under his father’s watch with the Denver Broncos from 2016 to 2018, before moving on to his first go-round as an offensive coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings in 2021.
From there, Kubiak’s served as the Broncos passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach (in 2022) and as the San Francisco 49ers passing game coordinator the following season, before taking the OC gig with the Saints and doing the same in the Emerald City this season.
The results of his third crack at being an OC in the NFL have gone well so far, with Seattle ranking second leaguewide in scoring, at 29.8, while posting the ninth most yards per game leaguewide.
Those strong results have Kubiak in line to land his first head coaching job this cycle, with +1100 odds of replacing Daboll in New York once the season wraps up.
Jeff Hafley (Packers defensive coordinator): +1100
The former Boston College head coach has returned to the pros and performed miracles coaching the Green Bay Packers defense. Since returning to the NFL in 2024, Hafley’s helped Green Bay’s defense go from 17th leaguewide in terms of yards allowed in 2022 and 2023 to fifth overall in each of his two years with the club.
For now, we’re giving Hafley +1100 odds of getting his first NFL head coaching role with the Giants, ranking in a tie with the junior Kubiak for fourth on our New York odds board.

Who Else Could Get Giants Job?
While most of our Giants longshot candidates are fellow NFL offensive or defensive coordinators, including Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo (+1500), Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter (+2000 each), there’s a college coach on our list that could catch some by surprise.
That’s because fifth year Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman is listed at +1500 (alongside Anarumo) to be the next man up in New York, thanks to his work with the Golden Domers.
In his first head coaching role, Freeman’s gone 43-12 (.782), leading Notre Dame to the CFP title game in 2024 after winning in the first two rounds of the 12-team event.
The 2024 winner of the Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year Award played briefly for the Chicago Bears, Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans in 2009, but has never coached in the league in any capacity.
Still, his ascendance in one of the biggest roles in the FBS means that Freeman’s name will likely be thrown out this offseason, both for various college and NFL openings, with the Giants potentially getting the first crack at landing the 39-year-old now that Notre Dame has officially opted out of the school’s bowl game.
Both Freeman and Minter are also on our Next Michigan Coach odds board.
