A huge NFC West showdown takes place on Thursday Night Football as the Seattle Seahawks host the Los Angeles Rams as a pair of 3-1 teams and legitimate Super Bowl contenders face off.

PICK 1: Seattle Seahawks -1.5

On paper this has many of the earmarks of a close game, but the trends follow the Seahawks.

Thursday Night Football is a different animal, and Seattle has mastered it, on a 7-0-2 ATS run on Thursday nights. Los Angeles, meanwhile, has covered just once in its last five Thursday games.

Rams RB Todd Gurley remarked that Thursday games are the “dumbest thing ever,” making one wonder where the mindset is for himself and the team, especially if the Seahawks take a lead (though most of the players on both sides likely agree). The Seahawks have covered in four of the last five matchups with the Rams.

PICK 2: Under 49.5 points

Both these teams can put up points in a hurry, but they both have top-10 defenses that can hunker down. So what kind of game will we get Thursday night?

The Over has hit the last three times the teams have faced off, but the Under is 5-2 in the last seven matchups in Seattle.

The Under is 4-1 in the Seahawks’ last four TNF games, and that’s been the trend for Thursdays this season, as three of the four matchups on this night have ended with 34 or fewer points.

The Seahawks under Pete Carroll have been a solid bet against the spread on Thursday nights.

PICK 3: Highest-scoring half – Second Half

The Rams are a second-half team offensively, and have not held on defense over the final 30 minutes, either. While Los Angeles this season has been outscored in the first half, on average, 10.0-9.7 points per game, the second half they’ve averaged 19.5 ppg (second-most in the NFL) while allowing 16.

The fourth quarter has been Seattle’s best quarter all season in terms of points, and the team has given up more than one TD per game in the fourth as well. It has taken both teams a half to get into rhythm.

PICK 4: First-Quarter Points – Under 9.5

The Rams have managed just six points in the first quarter through four weeks of the NFL season. That’s second-to-last in the league. But they have allowed only seven points.

The Seahawks aren’t that anemic, but it’s close. They’ve managed 17 first-quarter points (4.2 per game) while allowing just 10 (2.5).

If trends continue on both sides of the ball, the odds are good for another low-scoring first quarter.

Rams quarterback Jared Goff has already tossed six interceptions this season.

PICK 5: First Team With Turnover – Rams

Russell Wilson hasn’t thrown an INT yet this season and Chris Carson, the Seahawks running back with three of the team’s four fumbles, will see a reduced role with the return of Rashaad Penny from injury.

Meanwhile, Jared Goff has already tossed six interceptions and the Rams have three lost fumbles as well. Rams RBs rank 31st in the league with 12 receptions and last with just 72 receiving yards. Goff looks long and for his WRs – that means more big plays, but also means Los Angeles is more prone to a pick.
