The NFL world was shaken to its core Saturday night with the news that Indianapolis Colts star quarterback Andrew Luck has reportedly retired from the NFL, according to report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Almost immediately after the report, 888Sport and other sportsbooks pulled all Colts-related odds. The site, much like many bookmakers, was bullish on the Colts, with +100 odds to win the AFC South, +700 to win the AFC Championship and +1500 to win the Super Bowl

Luck is expected to make an official announcement Sunday.

For the Colts, this is a massive loss that could set the team back by several seasons as they have now lost one of the best passers in the NFL. Entering the league, Luck was considered one of the best quarterback prospects in NFL history and instantly had success in Indianapolis. It’s going to take years for the Colts to bounce back from this type of loss.

Impact on the 2019 Season

The Colts will now turn the reins over to Jacoby Brissett, who played extensively for the team in 2017. While Brissett is one of the better backups in the league, this changes the ceiling of the Colts this season.

Heading into this season, the Colts were one of the "hottest" teams in NFL betting, becoming a darkhorse to win the Super Bowl. After making the playoffs last season and beating the Houston Texans in the wild-card round, the Colts seemed poised to make a leap given some of the moves they made this offseason.

They were the odds-on favorite to win the AFC South before the news at +100 and were the third-most likely team to win the AFC title at +700. It's a team that has went from title contender to potentially the bottom of the AFC South in a moment's notice.

As for the AFC South, the Texans have to be considered the strong favorite to win the division with the Colts likely out of the equation. The odds on Jacksonville and Tennessee should also improve, but expect the Texans to get the most significant bump.

As for the conference, New England and Kansas City have become even more entrenched as the top two teams as the Colts could bottom out reasonably quickly. It's a move that will be felt for years in the NFL.

Luck’s Injury History Weighed On Him

After struggling with an ankle issue, Luck felt like he was "worn out" from constantly rehabbing from injuries, according to the report. Luck has dealt with multiple injuries throughout his career, but his most serious injury was when he missed the entire 2017 season due to a shoulder issue.

Earlier this offseason, Luck mentioned how he considered retiring after that season in an interview with ESPN. Two years later, he has decided to move on from the NFL after starting 86 games in the NFL.
