Anyway it’s cut, the 2022 season was an unmitigated disaster for the Arizona Cardinals. After improving in each of the first three seasons with Kliff Kingsbury as coach and Kyler Murray as QB, the Cardinals plummeted to the depths of despair, going from 11-6 in ’21 to 4-13 in ’22.

As 2023 looms, Kingsbury is out as coach, while Murray remains under center (injury permitting). Arizona is hoping for a quick turnaround to get back into the conversation in a tough NFC West. The Cards can make a huge step toward that goal at the 2023 NFL Draft.

Bookies.com oddsmaker Adam Thompson has used his resources of NFL contacts developed over 20 years covering the league and the NFL Draft to create his hypothetical NFL futures odds on who gets selected third overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Who Will The Cardinals Take In 2023 NFL Draft?

The offensive line simply didn’t get it done in 2022, ranking in the bottom 10 in sacks allowed despite the mobile Murray usually under center.

They didn't do much to address the problem this offseason, instead just re-signing T Kelvin Beachum and G Will Hernandez. Offensive line is considered a bit of a reach at No. 3 overall for this draft, but the desperation is so thick, Arizona is strongly considering going that route.

Unfortunately, the defense has more than enough holes to fill. The Cardinals allowed 26.4 ppg; only the Bears allowed more. And this offseason they lost J.J. Watt to retirement and standout DL Zach Allen to the Broncos, as well as one of their top CBs in Byron Murphy.

The Cards are in luck, because the NFL Draft has top-tier, future-star edge rushers and a cornerback, and they should all be available at No. 3 with quarterbacks expected to go 1 and 2.

Will Anderson Odds To Join Arizona Cardinals

When it comes to edge rushers, Will Anderson Jr. has separated himself from the pack in many eyes. He’s been compared favorably to Von Miller and called the best defensive player to come out of Alabama in three decades.

How does a team with a glaring need at the position pass on a guy like that? It probably doesn’t. Anderson is a big favorite on NFL betting sites to land in Arizona and take over where Watt, Allen and Chandler Jones left off.

Texas Tech edge rusher Tyree Wilson has vaulted up the charts with ideal size (6-foot-6, 271 pounds) and massive upside. Most scouts believe Anderson will be off the board before Wilson, but they’re close enough that the new coaching staff in Arizona may feel different.

Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter was considered a candidate to be the No. 1 overall pick when the Chicago Bears owned it. But they traded it to QB-needy Carolina, and Carter’s draft stock tanked after an arrest for reckless driving and racing resulting in a fatal accident.

If the Cards do go O-line, Paris Johnson Jr. of Ohio State has been praised by Murray as someone who he likes "a lot." If new head coach Jonathan Gannon looks to endear himself to his QB (who has at least five more years remaining on his contract), Johnson has leaped over Peter Skoronski of Northwestern on Arizona's board.

The Field is led by assistance for the aforementioned O-line, with Skoronski the most likely choice. This pick could also end up in another team’s hands. No. 3 could be a fine place to land for a QB-hungry team, and Arizona could find more value trading down.
