The Atlanta Falcons went just 7-10 last year, missing the playoffs and finishing only ahead of the Carolina Panthers in the NFC South. But boy, have expectations changed in one off-season. 

There is a new head coach in defensive guru Raheem Morris, and a new QB in Kirk Cousins. The Falcons added other key pieces, and can add another major component with a high first-round selection at the 2024 NFL Draft.

2024 NFL Draft Falcons Prospects

The Falcons lured Cousins out of Minnesota with a four-year, $160-million deal, an expensive but necessary blockbuster move after last year’s team sputtered under the direction of Desmond Ridder. Now an offense with Cousins, Bijan Robinson, Drake London, Kyle Pitts, and the acquired Darnell Mooney and Rondale Moore should be a high-scoring bunch. 

There is still work to be done, however. The run defense ranked 20th last year, 21st in sacks, and middle-half in pass yards per completion. Cornerback and pass-rushing specialists are likely to be a focus at No. 8. 

At that spot, the Falcons can have their pick of any cornerback in the draft. Quinyon Mitchell of Toledo and Terrion Arnold of Alabama are the consensus top-two CBs, and both should be available when the Falcons are on the clock. 

But Atlanta could also snag the top Edge rusher in the draft, a spot normally off the board by the third pick. With QBs and receivers expected to go early and often, the Falcons, at worst, should get one of the two premier, immediate-impact corner rushers.

Dallas Turner of Alabama and Jared Verse of Florida State could both go in the Top 10. Atlanta, at No. 8, with the Bears at No. 9 likely in the hunt for a new edge rusher as well. 

Verse could be the top pass-rusher in this draft, but Turner gets the edge due to a perceived higher ceiling and more all-around, albeit more raw, prospect. 

Could the Falcons swerve and pick someone other than those four aforementioned rookies? If so, it will likely go to an offensive tackle to help improve the pass-blocking for their $40M quarterback. If Joe Alt of Notre Dame is on the board, that might be too much to pass up for the Falcons. JC Latham of Alabama should be available, and could be strongly considered.
