After three consecutive seasons of 7-10, the Atlanta Falcons parted ways with head coach Arthur Smith.

The team used all its first-round picks during his tenure on players to improve the offense, yet each season the Falcons finished in the lower half of yards and dropped from 15th in scoring one year ago, to 26th in 2023. The Smith era ended with a thud; with a possible playoff berth in the balance, the Falcons lost to the rival Saints, 48-17.

Bookies.com veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has used his resources of NFL contacts developed over 20 years covering the league to update his NFL futures odds on who’s leading the Falcons out of the tunnel in 2024.

Legendary New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick won't be back with the team he’s led to six Super Bowl championships. While Belichick could ride off into the sunset, the belief is that hunger still burns to coach. The Falcons are trending into a possible destination for Belichick, with both sides seeking fresh starts in 2024 – even if the fresh start involves a 71-year-old leader.

The Falcons became the first team to officially interview Belichick for the head coach spot. He also became the first to interview with the team twice.

Atlanta is believed to be the only team that's interviewed Belichick, at least in an official manner. There were reports the Cowboys and Eagles inquired, if they had a head coaching vacancy, but the interest was not mutual. Dallas and Philly now appear to be sticking with their men.

Falcons owner Arthur Blank is 81; he wants to win now, and The Patriot Way might be the best option to get there in a hurry. In the same vein, former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel was recently brought in as well. Vrabel would be a win-now option that, like Belichick, has the clout to change the culture of a team seeking an identity.

The overall trend for future head coaches, however, is skewing on the younger side.

Offensive coordinators Ben Johnson of the Lions and Bobby Slowik of the Texans are on the radar of the remaining vacancies out there. Slowik has impressed but is young with just this season of experience as OC. There will be ample competition for their talents from other teams seeking to fill their head jobs.

The Falcons have reportedly had interviews, and either requested or conducted second interviews, for defensive coordinators Ejiro Evero of the Panthers, Raheem Morris of the Rams, Aaron Glenn of the Lions and Mike Macdonald of the Ravens.

49ers DC Steve Wilks leads The Field, where he's joined by Bills interim offensive coordinator Joe Brady and Raiders defensive line coach Anthony Weaver.
