Super Bowl 2021 is over. Can we begin talking about Super Bowl 2022 yet?

NFL odds have been updated following Sunday night’s showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As it stands right now, oddsmakers don’t expect a repeat. However, a rematch could very well be in the offing.

Despite blowing out the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 in Super Bowl 55 on Sunday night, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are not the favorites to repeat next season. Instead, the Chiefs are the favorites to bounce back and reclaim their crown. Kansas City is posted at +550, well ahead of the field. The Buccaneers are tied as second choice at +900 with the Green Bay Packers, this past season’s No. 1 seed in the NFC before being upended in the NFC Championship by the Bucs.

Before the game, the Bucs were alone as the third choice at +1100, so clearly oddsmakers were impressed with what they saw.

One reason the Bucs aren’t favored could be Tom Brady’s status for next season. While the now five-time Super Bowl MVP has said he plans on playing past the age of 45 (he’s 43), you could envision a scenario in which he walks away with seven titles, including this one won without Bill Belichick.

Other Super Bowl 2022 Contenders

Lamar Jackson’s Baltimore Ravens and Josh Allen’s Buffalo Bills are each at +1200, as are the Los Angeles Rams, who will have a new QB under center in Matthew Stafford as they look to become the second team ever to host a Super Bowl (the Bucs this year were the first).

The 49ers are the highest team to not make the 2020 NFL Playoffs. They’re No. 7 on the board at +1400.

Teams who had, or likely will, trade their franchise QB, bring up the rear. The Detroit Lions, who traded away Stafford in return for Jared Goff and a slew of draft picks, along with the Houston Texans, who are expected to deal Deshaun Watson to the highest bidder, are at the bottom of the chart at +10000.

However, keep in mind when betting on the Super Bowl that at this time last year, the bottom two teams on the board were Washington and Miami. Washington made the playoffs and the Dolphins, at 10-6, barely missed out.
