The Denver Broncos rode a surprisingly strong defense and the arm of rookie QB Bo Nix to the playoffs this past season. With the Kansas City Chiefs’ reign over the AFC West potentially nearing its end, the Broncos have emerged as the most likely successor.

Head coach Sean Payton has built a solid roster on both sides of the ball. However, the Broncos lost wide receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey to the New York Giants via free agency. This offseason, Denver has been relatively quiet in free agency, making only minor additions. Multiple reports suggest that the Broncos are focused on selecting either a wide receiver or tight end in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft.

Holding the 20th overall pick in April’s draft, the Broncos will have several mid-range options available. While elite wide receivers may not be on the board at that point, the draft features multiple wideouts and tight ends who could make an immediate impact in the NFL.

As the draft approaches, veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson of Bookies.com has compiled hypothetical NFL odds for sports betting on who the Broncos might select with their first pick.

Top Potential Broncos First Pick: Player Breakdown

Colston Loveland, TE, Michigan (+500)

A top-tier tight end prospect, Colston Loveland earned a "Year 1 Starter" grade from NFL Next Gen Stats. At 6-foot-6 and 248 pounds, he boasts the frame, catch radius, and instincts of a wide receiver. His route-running ability at all levels makes him a reliable target, though his speed could use some improvement. He leads this market due to his likely availability at Pick 20 and the Broncos' consistent need for offensive production at the position.

Emeka Egbuka, WR, Ohio State (+550)

Emeka Egbuka, a former baseball outfielder, utilizes his instincts to find open spaces in the secondary while maintaining speed and focus when tracking the ball. Though his size (6-foot-1, 202 pounds) is unremarkable, he excels at creating separation. He ranked sixth among wide receivers at the NFL Combine, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. With extensive big-game experience (Michigan aside), Egbuka holds the Ohio State record with 205 career receptions.

Matthew Golden, WR, Texas (+600)

Matthew Golden offers versatility, as he can play all three wide receiver positions. Despite a modest frame (5-foot-11, 191 pounds), he maximizes his skill set. In his lone season with Texas after transferring from Houston, Golden led the Longhorns with 987 receiving yards and nine touchdown catches. He ranked fifth overall at wide receiver at the combine, per NFL Next Gen Stats.

Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State (+700)

Tyler Warren dominated the Big Ten and impressed at the NFL Combine. Standing at 6-foot-5 ½ and 256 pounds, he provides a big target in the passing game. While some scouts question his athleticism, he still earned an "Elite" rating and a "Year 1 Starter" projection from NFL Next Gen Stats. Warren also won the 2024 John Mackey Award as the nation’s top tight end, making him a strong long-term solution at the position. However, his availability at Pick 20 is uncertain.

Other Potentials

Omarion Hampton, RB, North Carolina (+750)

Omarion Hampton is a powerful, downhill runner who prefers to run through defenders rather than around them. While he lacks breakaway speed, he compensates with strength and determination. His physical running style will face a greater challenge in the NFL than it did in the ACC. Hampton was ranked fourth among running backs at the combine by NFL Next Gen Stats. Though he may not be a Day 1 starter, he has the potential to contribute significantly in multiple situations.

Jihaad Campbell, LB, Alabama (+900)

Jihaad Campbell was the top-ranked linebacker at the combine, per NFL Next Gen Stats. His combination of size (6-foot-3, 253 pounds) and athleticism impressed scouts. However, his draft stock may slide due to a left shoulder injury. Campbell underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum after the combine, and he is not expected to be ready for the start of the season. If the Broncos select him, it would likely be a long-term investment rather than an immediate-impact pick.

Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State (+1000)

If available at this spot, Ashton Jeanty would be an excellent choice for the Broncos. He dominated college football last season, leading the nation with 2,601 rushing yards—just 28 yards shy of breaking Barry Sanders' single-season record (1988, Oklahoma State). He also recorded 29 rushing touchdowns on 374 carries and won the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top running back. Jeanty further impressed at the combine, earning an "Elite" grade and a 95 overall score via NFL Next Gen Stats. His Heisman Trophy runner-up finish (behind Colorado’s Travis Hunter) cemented his reputation as one of the most dynamic offensive players in this draft class.

Kenneth Grant, DL, Michigan (+1200)

Kenneth Grant played a crucial role in Michigan’s 2023 national championship campaign. At 6-foot-4 and 331 pounds, he excels as both a run-stuffer and a pass-rusher. A three-down lineman in college, Grant’s availability at Pick 20 is uncertain, which contributes to his longer odds in this betting market.
