All of a sudden, the Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves back in a familiar position, fighting for first place atop the AFC North. The Lions aren’t fighting for much, outside of securing the first overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

It’s a little surprising to see sportsbooks have this game anything under 10 points. It’s certainly one of the larger NFL spreads of the week, but it only sits at 8 points for a game that includes a winless team.

The Steelers offensive line is playing considerably better than at the start of the season, and their defense continues to limit opposing offenses. We see three double-digit spreads above this one, and NFL betting sites may move this line up to 10 points. The Lions come off a bye week, and before that, a drubbing by the Eagles. Detroit has failed to score at least 20 points every game since the season opener.

Take a look at Lions vs. Steelers odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Lions vs. Steelers Key Matchups

Pittsburgh vs The Letdown: The Lions are an easy target for a letdown no matter when a team plays them. Detroit is 0-8 and desperate. They will take ridiculous risks that may throw off an opponent.

Steelers D vs Anyone on Detroit: It’s not just how bad the Lions are as team, but specifically how little they score. Even when down big, they’ve failed to come back and put pressure on opposing defenses by scoring any points.

Najee Harris vs Lions Front: Now that Harris is getting better blocking, the league is on notice with Pittsburgh’s rookie RB. Harris is also an integral part of the passing game so watch for him to see a couple of targets.

Lions vs. Steelers Key Stats

25th: For all the good we’ve seen with the Steelers and that they are two games above .500, their offense still ranks 25th in the league, 28th in running the ball.

14th: Detroit will have their hands full trying to do anything against Pittsburgh’s defense, ranked 14th in the NFL in yards per game.

30: Jared Goff hasn’t hit 30 completions since Week 1 against the 49ers. Something to factor in if your NFL picks have you laying the points with the Steelers.

4: The Steelers look much different over the past month as do their stats, as they ride a four-game winning streak into Sunday’s game against the Lions.

18: If the Lions want to keep this close their answer may be pressuring Big Ben. The Steelers QB has been sacked 18 times across eight games played this year.

150: Harris has this many attempts on the ground this year, accounting for nearly all of the carries on the ground for Pittsburgh.

Lions vs. Steelers Player Props

Jared Goff, Under 250.5 Passing Yards

Odds: -110 at DraftKings

Jared Goff can throw downfield when defenses get super soft. That’s usually when Detroit is down by multiple scores. Don’t expect either team to pull away, and Pittsburgh’s defense will limit Goff.

D’Andre Swift, Under 11.5 Rush Attempts

Odds: +105 at DraftKings

Swift gets a lot of carries early in games as he turns more into a receiver later when Detroit is down. Pittsburgh will effectively take Swift out of the game.

Austin Seibert, Over 1.5 Field Goals

Odds: +125 at BetMGM

Seibert will have his chances, as the Lions will be lucky to find the red zone, let alone the end zone.

Lions vs. Steelers Moneyline

The moneyline doesn’t offer a ton of value for the Steelers straight up. If you believe the Lions aren’t going to win their first game of the season against Pittsburgh, then they make a great anchor play in a parlay. The Lions' value at just north of a 3:1 return looks decent, it’s just not worth the risk.

Detroit doesn’t put out much of a scoring offense to even counter a bad day for the Steelers on defense. It does stand out a little that Detroit is so awful, and the Steelers have won four straight, yet the Lions are only +325. Ultimately, it’s just not worth the risk.

Lions vs. Steelers Spread

The line moved a little bit from 8 to 9, but the play remains the same. The Steelers are the better football team and Detroit is winless. However, Pittsburgh hasn’t covered in eight straight games as the favorite, something to keep in mind at betting sites for this specific line.

The best play here is to use Pittsburgh as an anchor in a 6-to-7-point teaser. The Steelers may not cover the closing gate, but they will at -3 or -2. Steelers in a 6-point teaser.

Lions vs. Steelers Total

The combined under for these two teams is 11-5 this year. Some of it is that the Steelers are stellar on defense in keeping teams out of the end zone, the other is that everyone takes the Lions lightly – resulting in lower-scoring games.

The Steelers are in a dog fight for the AFC North and are deep enough in the season where they won’t take anyone lightly. Their offense isn’t lighting up the scoreboard, so trust in their defense limiting Detroit. It’s a low number but just over that key total of 41, the most popular of key numbers. Even if it sneaks by, the game will go under. Take Under 42.5 (-105) at DraftKings.
