Dolphins vs Jaguars Betting Analysis

After nearly upsetting the Titans in Week 2, the Jaguars open this contest as less than a field goal favorite over the Dolphins despite being at home. However, there is a lot of excitement in Jacksonville with the current squad as it is averaging 28.5 points per game this season. Quarterback Gardner Minshew has been fantastic, throwing for 512 yards and six touchdowns against two pretty good AFC South teams.

But should Jacksonville be a favorite over any team at this point? The Jaguars have won just three of their last 10 games going back to 2019, with two wins over the Colts and a last-second victory over the Raiders. This is the first time the Jaguars have been favored in a game since Week 8 of last year when they were 7-point favorites over the Jets. In fact, the Jaguars have been favored in just three of their previous 20 games. This isn't a team that is used to being expected to win, especially since the 2018 season.

The Dolphins have lost back-to-back divisional games despite playing a solid game against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. Starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick played well against Buffalo, but the question surrounding the team is when will Tua Tagovailoa get his chance to lead this team? That won't happen this week, but his time is coming.

From a betting perspective, the Dolphins have been sneaky good as of late. Miami is an incredible 10-4 against the spread in its last 14 games as head coach Brian Flores has been able to get a ton out of his roster. For that reason, don't be afraid to take the Dolphins and the points in this contest. They have the defensive talent to slow down Jacksonville and their offense is good enough to keep them in games.

However, Miami shouldn't be trusted much either as it has lost 14 of its last 16 games on the road. But there could be a significant talent differential here as the Dolphins are further along in their rebuild than Jacksonville and should dominate in the trenches.

Take the Dolphins +2.5 to win this game at DraftKings, and don't be afraid to take the moneyline either. Expect this to be a close, but a sloppy game in Jacksonville and for the Dolphins to upset the Jaguars.

As for the point total, Thursday Night Football games tend to favor the offenses as the defenses are often worn down and not quite as prepared as usually would be on a typical Sunday. While both teams have a lot of young talent in their secondary, they can be exposed through the air.

Look for both teams to approach 24 or more points in this contest with the possibility of each team scoring in the 30s. Take the over with confidence and expect a fun shootout on Thursday Night Football.
