When healthy, the Los Angeles Chargers’ Joey Bosa is a fearsome, sometimes overwhelming, edge rusher with the capacity to change games and alter gameplans.

Of course, “when healthy” is the key sticking point. Bosa has managed only 16 games over the last two seasons, with just nine sacks and less than one QB hit on average per game.

No team is in worse shape with the salary cap heading into the offseason than the Chargers, and major changes are expected with new GM Joe Hortiz and coach John Harbaugh.

Bookies.com veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has used his resources of NFL contacts developed over 20 years covering the league to create his NFL future odds on the which team Bosa plays for in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season.

The Chargers are $18.6 million over the 2024 salary cap as of March 7, ranking 32nd out of the 32 teams in available money. Only two teams have fewer players under contract for next season, so L.A. needs to add new guys while also slashing current contracts.

Cutting Bosa would save the team roughly $14.4M, while trading him would save $36.6M. The rusher has two years left on his deal.

Bosa, along with Khalil Mack ($36.6M) and wideouts Keenan Allen ($34.7M) and Mike Williams ($32.5M) are all potential cap casualties. Williams is considered a strong candidate to be moved. The Chargers remain favorites to have Bosa because they have all the cards and other options.

NFL picks heat up as fans speculate on Joey Bosa's next team, guided by odds from seasoned oddsmakers and betting apps.

That said, Mack registered 17 sacks this past season, and despite his advanced age (33) may be more valuable to the Chargers. Bosa, some insiders believe, could be worth a first-round pick on the trade market.

Ohio State has four Pro Bowl trips and won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 2016. He could be a huge boon to a team planning to make a championship run that also has money to spend.

The Detroit Lions and Houston Texans are the top teams with a roster that can win and a pool of cap space to add an impact guy. Finding an edge rusher is one of the top off-season priorities for the Lions, especially. That they’re in the NFC and built to win now puts them just behind the Chargers. Houston appears to be heading more toward a gradual youth movement.

The Arizona Cardinals are desperate for a turnaround. While Kyler Murray is a key piece, the defense is the area of most needed improvement. Arizona can afford Bosa, too, more so than most other teams seeking immediate help on the edge.

Bosa has indicated a desire to play with brother Nick Bosa, who’s currently leading the powerful San Francisco 49ers defense. But SF’s cap issues – they’re in the red as of March 7 –  means they’d need to make major concessions elsewhere to make it work.

The Los Angeles Rams, Indianapolis Colts, and Washington Commanders all have the need and the means. It would seem unlikely the Chargers would send one of their most popular players to the rival Rams, but stranger things have happened. The Commanders have more cap space than any team but appear more to be on a rebuild.

The Chicago Bears traded Mack to the Chargers, a move that worked great for L.A. Perhaps a swap here benefits both sides.

The Field includes teams with a need but with bigger, QB-sized fish to fry, and limited funds, including the Atlanta Falcons, Minnesota Vikings, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers
