The Las Vegas Raiders are hoping that some of Tom Brady’s winning magic rubs off on the rest of the organization. The team addressed—at least on paper—its quarterback situation by trading for Geno Smith.

At 35 years old, Smith was a steady presence for the Seahawks, and now he reunites with his former coach, Pete Carroll, in Las Vegas. Carroll, who will be the oldest head coach in the NFL this season, faces a crucial draft as the Raiders aim to rebuild.

Holding the sixth overall pick in the April NFL Draft, the Raiders have multiple needs to address. With Smith under center, the logical move would be to strengthen the running game. Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty dominated the competition last season on the blue turf and helped lead the Broncos to the College Football Playoff.

This year’s draft class is also deep in defensive linemen, giving the Raiders solid options at that position regardless of how the board falls before their pick.

With the NFL Draft approaching, veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson of Bookies.com has compiled hypothetical NFL odds on who the Raiders might select with their first pick.

Potential Raiders First Pick: Player Breakdown

Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State (+300)

Ashton Jeanty dominated for the Boise State Broncos last season, leading the nation with 2,601 rushing yards—just 28 yards shy of breaking Barry Sanders' single-season record (1988, Oklahoma State). He added 29 rushing touchdowns on 374 carries and was named the Doak Walker Award winner as the top running back in the country.

Jeanty also impressed at the NFL Combine, earning an "Elite" grade and a 95 overall score via NFL Next Gen Stats. His Heisman Trophy runner-up finish (behind Colorado’s Travis Hunter) further solidified his status as one of the most dynamic offensive players in this draft class.

Jalon Walker, Edge, Georgia (+450)

Jalon Walker played linebacker at Georgia and was graded as such at the NFL Combine. He ranked third among linebackers in NFL Next Gen Stats grading, though his 6'1" frame and 32-inch arm length could be concerns for teams looking for a prototypical edge rusher.

Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado (+500)

Shedeur Sanders is widely regarded as the second-best quarterback in the draft, and his connection to part-Raiders owner Brady could make him a tempting pick. Brady has been a mentor to Sanders since high school, and this situation could be ideal for Carroll, allowing Sanders time to develop under Smith.

Mason Graham, DL, Michigan (+600)

Mason Graham was the highest-rated defensive tackle at the NFL Combine per NFL Next Gen Stats. Many analysts consider him the second-best defensive player in this draft behind Penn State's Abdul Carter.

Graham would be a solid pick at No. 6, but if the Raiders prefer to trade down, he could still be available later in the first round.

Will Campbell, T, LSU (+625)

At 6'6" and 319 pounds, Will Campbell anchored LSU’s offensive line and protected Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels against elite SEC pass rushers. He was considered the top offensive lineman in the draft before analytics-driven scouting downgraded him due to his 32 5/8-inch arm length, which falls just short of the 33-inch benchmark for left tackles.

While Campbell graded as the No. 2 offensive tackle at the combine, the Raiders may choose to address other positions first.

Will Johnson, CB, Michigan (+750)

Will Johnson played a crucial role in Michigan’s 2023 National Championship defense. His interception in the title game against Michael Penix Jr. (now with the Falcons) was a game-changing moment for the Wolverines.

Considered a "boom-or-bust" prospect by NFL Next Gen Stats, Johnson is still the top-ranked cornerback in this draft. The Raiders need help in their secondary, but they may have higher-priority needs at other positions.

Final Thoughts

The Raiders have plenty of options at No. 6, and their pick will ultimately depend on their biggest needs and how the draft board unfolds. While Jeanty’s dominance makes him an appealing choice, other top-tier defensive and offensive linemen could help build a stronger foundation for the future.

Who will Las Vegas select with their first-round pick? The answer will unfold on draft night.
