The Aaron Rodgers Error is over in Florham Park.

The Jets never took flight after signing Rodgers ahead of the 2023 season. Rodgers lasted only 4 snaps in his first season with the Jets. He managed to stay upright and start all 17 games for the 5-12 Jets this past season, but it didn’t matter save for draft position.

Rodgers last season added Robert Saleh to the list of coaches he helped get fired. Otherwise, his time in New York was unremarkable. Save for the catastrophic miss on expectations. The Jets signed former Steelers QB Justin Fields as their QB 1 during the early days of free agency. Fields’ 2-year, $40 million deal leaves the Jets draft board open in terms of possible selections with the No. 7 overall pick.

Rookie GM Darren Mougey and rookie head coach Aaron Glenn have plenty of needs to address in April’s NFL Draft. Bookies.com veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has put together hypothetical NFL odds for sports betting odds for who the Jets will take with pick No. 7.

Potential Jets 1st Pick Player Breakdown

Here’s a look at the Top 5 players the Jets could take with the No. 7 overall pick.

1. Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona (+450)

In addition to jettisoning Aaron Rodgers, the Jets lost WR Davante Adams to the Rams in free agency. Having solved their issue at QB, grabbing the best-available wideout would make a lot of sense for Team Green. But we are talking about the Jets, so “Common Sense” often ends up stuck in the dustbin of history next to that second Lombardi Trophy.

2. Mason Graham, DL, Michigan ( +500)

Aaron Glenn spent his entire career on the defensive side of the ball. He was a 3-time Pro Bowler in his career as a cornerback. Bolstering that side of the field should not be unexpected. The Jets also lost DT Solomon Thomas to the Cowboys via free agency. Even though he’s “only” 6’3” and has 32-inch arms, Mason Graham ranked first overall in the combine in terms of Production Score via NFL Next Gen Stats. And he spearheaded Michigan’s defense that won the Natty 2 years ago.

3. Will Campbell, T, LSU ( +600)

Will Campbell is considered the top offensive tackle in the draft. He might not be here when the Jets make their pick given the needs of the Patriots (they don’t have a left tackle) who draft at No. 4. Campbell’s 32 5/8th -inch arms troubled some scouts at the combine. Otherwise, he’s a solid choice at this position. He ranked No. 3 in all three Next Gen Stats Combine Score metrics: Production, Athleticism, and Overall.

4. Will Johnson, CB, Michigan ( +625)

Like Graham, Will Johnson was a pivotal player for the 2023 National Champions. His interception on the first play in the second half of the national title game against Michael Penix Jr. (now starting for the Falcons) opened the flood gates for the Wolverines. He’s been scored as a “Boom or Bust” by Next Gen Stats. He is the top corner available in this draft. But the Jets signed Brandon Stephens as a free agent, lessening their chances of taking another corner with their first-round pick. Then again, Glenn was a cornerback. So . . .

5. Tyler Warren, TE, Penn St. (+800)

Tyler Warren proved to be a reliable target for the Nittany Lions. It’s clear the Jets are building a run-first defense with Justin Fields at QB (most likely including Fields). That requires a solid tight-end core. The Jets have Jeremy Ruckert as their TE1 – so Warren could be an option if they do not find a TE2 in free agency.
