The Alabama Bowl takes the spotlight in Week 7 of the NFL betting season. The Miami Dolphins face a crucial road test as they visit the NFC Champion Eagles on Sunday night. Both teams are 5-1.

The game features a matchup of two former Crimson Tide quarterbacks who were teammates. Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa played together at Tuscaloosa in 2017-18. Hurts led the Tide to an 11-1 regular season record. He was benched in the national title game before Tagovailoa came off the bench to lead 'Bama to a comeback victory. Hurts was relegated to the backup role in 2018 and transferred to Oklahoma before the 2019 season.

Hurts and the Eagles suffered their first season loss Sunday, falling to Zach Wilson and the Jets. The Dolphins have surprised on the upside this season. A healthy Tua Tagovailoa remains the critical piece and unknown for Miami's success. Tua has missed four games in the past two seasons due to injury.

RELATED: 2024 Super Bowl Odds Tracker | NFL Futures Odds

Last year, Tua's season was scarred by a terrible scare and subsequent concussion-related absence. He's been fully healthy thus far in 2023. Remaining healthy is vital for his future as both a player and a human being. Tua worked on this in the offseason, specifically learning how to fall and when to go down to avoid potential damaging hits to the head.

The week begins with the Jaguars visiting New Orleans on Thursday night. There are just six games in the 1 p.m. Sunday time slot. The Chargers-Chiefs matchup will likely be the national game on FOX at 4:25 p.m. ET—the 49ers head to Minneapolis Monday night.

Bye Week: Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans

2023 NFL Week 7 Best Bets

Jacksonville Jaguars at New Orleans Saints - Thursday, October 19 - 8:15 p.m. (Prime Video)

This game could be sneaky good with Derek Carr and Trevor Lawrence slinging it inside the Caesars Superdome. The total has slid to 41 points and the game is the pick.

The Jaguars have found their groove, but Lawrence was hurt in Week 6. Status unknown for this one. Jacksonville has won three straight and the Saints remain up-and-down.

Best Bet: Jaguars Pick (-110) with Caesars Sportsbook

Detroit Lions at Baltimore Ravens - Sunday, October 22 - 1:00 p.m. (FOX)

Who had this one on their "Potential Super Bowl 58 Matchup" bingo card? The Lions are 14-2 against the line in their past 16 games and 5-1 straight up this season. Detroit kept Tampa Bay out of the end zone Sunday in a 20-6 win.

Jared Goff threw for 353 yards and 2 TDs. The Ravens barely held for the cover (-5.5) in beating Tennessee (partly without Ryan Tannehill) 24-16 in London.

Best Bet: Lions +2.5 (-110) with Caesars Sportsbook

Las Vegas Raiders at Chicago Bears - Sunday, October 22 - 1:00 p.m. (FOX)

An ugly inter-conference matchup, the freshness of which expired in 1989. Both starting QBs were hurt in Week 6. But the loss of Justin Fields for the Bears would be much more costly than Jimmy Garoppolo for the Raiders.

Best Bet: Raiders -3 (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Cleveland Browns at Indianapolis Colts - Sunday, October 22 - 1:00 p.m. (CBS)

Gardner Minshew gets the call for the Colts, likely against P.J. Walker. With Walker at QB, the Browns upended the 49ers. Cleveland's defense should deliver on the road this week. The Colts have lost seven of their last eight home games.

Best Bet: Browns ML (-125) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots - Sunday, October 22 - 1:00 p.m. (CBS)

Since Tom Brady headed South, the Patriots have dropped six of seven games against Buffalo. We locked on the Bills at -3.5 in the preseason. Ahh, thus were the days. At this number, it's hard not to back the Bills. The Patriots are terrible (1-5) and getting worse.

Josh Allen will use this as a get-right game for Buffalo's offense. It struggled against the Giants before pulling out a 14-9 win Sunday night. Even after Sunday, the Bills are willing by an average margin of 15.8 points. Listen for the Boo Birds in Foxboro early and often.

Best Bet: Bills -8.5 (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Washington Commanders at New York Giants - Sunday, October 22 - 1:00 p.m. (CBS)

The Giants are coming off a tough one against the Bills in Week 6. The Commanders offer not much of a soft landing spot. Look for an old-school 1980s defensive struggle. Each of the Giants' last four games have gone under the total points line.

Best Bet: Under 41 Points (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Sunday, October 22 - 1:00 p.m. (FOX)

The Buccaneers (3-2) sputtered badly against the superior Lions in Week 6 and could not find the end zone. Baker Mayfield was victimized by too many uncharacteristic drops. The Falcons (3-3) fell 24-16 loss to Washington. The winner gets the inside track in the NFC South. Tampa Bay's defense should be able to slow Bijan Robinson, but can the Bucs generate enough points to keep up? The Falcons are 1-4 ATS in their past 5 games. We're hopping aboard the Pirate Ship at home.

Best Bet: Buccaneers -2.5 (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Pittsburgh Steelers at Los Angeles Rams - Sunday, October 22 - 4: 05 p.m. (FOX)

Another "road" home game for the Rams. But this Terrible Towel-waving crowd won't be enough to elevate Steelers. We backed the Rams when they were 2-point home underdogs in th preseason. They are now 3-point home favorites. Matt Stafford and Cooper Kupp are back in their groove. The Steelers won't be able to keep pace.

Best Bet: Rams -3 (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Arizona Cardinals at Seattle Seahawks - Sunday, October 22 - 4:05 p.m. (FOX)

Geno Smith threw for 323 yards but tossed a pair of picks in Seattle's road loss at Cincinnati in Week 6. The Seahawks will be back home, and the Cardinals will be exposed to both "The 12s" and the elements.

The Cardinals have failed to cover in 11 of 12 against NFC West opponents. We know 8.5 points really means 10. An opportunity for Pete Carroll to get the Seahawks' offense back on track.

Best Bet: Seahawks -8.5 (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Green Bay Packers at Denver Broncos - Sunday, October 22 - 4:25 p.m. (CBS)

The Broncos and Patriots are fighting for "Worst Team In The AFC Status." The status of Aaron Jones remains a concern for the Packers. Neither offense has shown an ability to do much of late. The Broncos are riding an 0-7 slide against the spread. Getting 2 points at home won't be enough this week.

Best Bet: Packers -2 (-110) with Caesars Sportsbook

Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs - Sunday, October 22 - 4:25 p.m. (CBS)

More than three-quarters of a billion dollars worth of quarterbacks face off in this one. Patrick Mahomes ($503 million) and Justin Herbert ($262.5 million) should keep the CBS national audience entertained. Pity the defensive coordinators on both sides.

The Chiefs are 4-2 ATS this year and barely covered a 10.5-point line against Denver Thursday in an 19-8 win. The last two Chargers-Chiefs games were decided by a field goal. The Chargers are coming off a Monday night game against Dallas.

Best Bet: Chargers +5.5 (-110) with Caesars Sportsbook

Miami Dolphins at Philadelphia Eagles -  Sunday, October 22 - 8:20 p.m. (NBC)

Both teams are 5-1. Two former Crimson Tide teammates and quarterbacks share The Alabama Bowl spotlight on NBC. Jalen Hurts and the hometown Eagles will be licking their wounded wings after that stunning 20-14 loss to the Jets in Week 6. The Dolphins' defense won't be making any big fourth-quarter picks. But their offense is the best in football, averaging 498.7 YPG.

Tua Tagovailoa has been able to stay healthy thus far. This is a major road test for Miami. And there will be plenty of offense to keep the nationwide audience entertained. Five of Miami's past six road games have gone over the total. This number is high, but attainable.

San Francisco 49ers at Minnesota Vikings - Monday, October 23 - 8:15 p.m. (ESPN)

The 49ers have an extra day to get mentally and physically healthy after a 19-17 loss at Cleveland. The 49ers lost Christian McCaffrey (oblique/rib) and Deebo Samuel (shoulder) to injuries in the loss. McCaffrey has now scored a TD in 15-straight games. Their status for this week will be worth watching. This line has swelled from SF -1 in the preseason (we locked it in at SF -2.5) to SF -7.

The Vikings have now lost 4 one-score games after winning all 11 on-score games last season. The universe continues to seek balance. Even short-handed, the 49ers have enough to cover.

Best Bet: 49ers -7 (-110) with DraftKings
