NFL Survivor Pools have exploded in popularity. There are levels for all kinds of fans — from family pools to those with thousands of dollars in NFL betting cash prizes on the line.

The simple nature of it is the major draw: Survivor Pools entail picking one team to win each week, but never picking the same team twice.

It's not how much your team wins by in a Survivor Pool. Simply, it's about picking a winner and moving on — and sometimes saving the biggest NFL odds favorites for future weeks.

Here is the pick for Week 5:

Dallas Cowboys

There is a big elephant in the room when backing the Cowboys this week against the New York Giants. They have the single worst defense in the entire NFL!

Yes, Dallas has allowed an embarrassing 36.5 points per game. That’s two points worse a game than the horrid Falcons. But the Cowboys offense also averages 31.5 ppg, third-most in the league. We know Dallas can score; even with a decimated offensive line, the last three weeks have led to 40, 31 and 38 points on the board.

As important, we know the Giants can’t score. They haven’t hit 17 points in a game yet and have failed to hit double digits the last two weeks. In a season that’s producing record-breaking finals across the board, the Giants are a huge outlier.

Sure, New York might actually get to 17 points this week vs. Dallas. But what’s stopping the Cowboys from reaching 30 or more? At home, the Cowboys should outscore the Giants.

Other Week 5 Contenders:

Baltimore Ravens: Joe Burrow finally got his first Bengals victory, but that was against the Jaguars. This is a different level of pro ball here, and the Ravens have rolled every non-Mahomes-led team by at least two TDs.

Houston Texans: I love Houston in this spot against a Jags team that has looked worse each week since stunning the Colts in their opener. But let’s have the Texans prove themselves before backing them for any must-win.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Carson Wentz is in trouble against Pittsburgh’s attacking and ball-hawking defense. The Steelers should score enough points here at home.
