In what has to be one of the oddest stories in NFL history, four-time All-Pro receiver Antonio Brown is now on his third team in 2019. Released by the Oakland Raiders on Saturday morning after several off-the-field incidents and distractions, Antonio Brown signed a one-year deal worth up to $15 million with the New England Patriots, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

It’s not surprising the Patriots took a chance on Brown given their history of signing disgruntled or troubled players and trying to convert them to "The Patriot Way." In fact, this isn’t even the first diva wide receiver from Oakland (Randy Moss in 2007) the Patriots have acquired. With Brown, Julian Edelman and Josh Gordon, it’s not hard to make the case that the Patriots now have the best set of receivers in the NFL.

So, it's not shocking to see the Patriots suddenly being the favorites to win this year’s Super Bowl. Since the news of Brown’s signing Saturday afternoon, New England jumped to +500 to win the Super Bowl, up from +700 earlier in the day at 888Sport. The Patriots also moved from +400 to +200 to win the AFC title, and their win total has crept up to 11.5 wins.

How You Should Bet New England Now

How should fans of NFL betting approach the Patriots after the Brown signing? Given what we know about his time in Pittsburgh and Oakland, there is a real chance that things don’t pan out in New England, either. And if there is one thing we know about Patriots coach Bill Belichick it is that the team won’t put up with any distractions and will cut their losses if a player doesn’t work out.

The best strategy might be to load up on other AFC contenders that you may have liked before the signing, such as Kansas City or Pittsburgh. Both of their AFC title odds have lowered and are now a much better value.

However, there is a chance that Brown is Moss 2.0 in New England and puts up monster numbers with Tom Brady. If nothing else, this should be fascinating television as Brown and the Patriots will be must-see TV.
