Divisional games can be a little more difficult to handicap as most sportsbooks aren’t giving you much of a break, no matter how wide the gap is between the two teams.

The Jets are already a mess just one game in, losing their best OL in Mekhi Becton last week. That’s going to be a problem for Zach Wilson all game. Meanwhile the Patriots found their starting QB in Mac Jones, who looked comfortable throwing the ball against Miami. The Pats are a heavy road favorite in a divisional game in Week 2, something you don’t see much with NFL spreads.

Beyond Jones, Damien Harris found a grove topping 100 yards rushing, despite coughing it up late. The Patriots have a major advantage in every area, especially on defense. There’s no reason to overthink this, even though it’s a big ask to lay 6 points on the road. Some bettors approach NFL betting looking for some hidden angle; this one is pretty straightforward. The Jets are awful.

The 6-point line is a strong reflection of how confident the books are in New England’s defense more so than Jones. The Pats are -250 favorite on the ML, with the Jets a major longshot play at +210. The total may appear low at 42.5, but it sits just north of that key number 41, and the Jets might not score double digits.

Patriots vs Jets Key Matchups

Patriots D-Line vs. Air: Becton is New York’s best pass protector on an already battered offensive line. Removing him should allow for the Patriots to get to Wilson any and every time they want.

Bill Belichick vs. Zach Wilson: This isn’t expected to be a true back-and-forth, so much as a question of how badly Belichick drives Wilson into the ground. The Pats coach is known for staying a step ahead of rookie QBs; expect nothing less on Sunday.

Jets Front 7 vs. Damien Harris: The Jets won’t be able to move the ball on the ground, but that doesn’t mean New England will either. This may be the lone matchup the Jets have a legit shot of winning. CJ Mosley will have his hands full, but the Jets front has enough strength to help neutralize NE’s run game.

Patriots Vs. Jets Key Stats

10: Ten straight to be exact. That’s how many games the Patriots have won in a row over the Jets, dating back to 2015. No matter the personnel, the result stays the same.

45: Rushing yards by the Jets last week against the Panthers. New England’s front is as aggressive if not better than Carolina, so expect a long day for Wilson.

23: Carries for Harris last week in a close game with the Dolphins. While James White still caught six passes, Harris is the bell cow back without question.

14.4: Nelson Agholor averaged this many yards per reception against Miami. The deep threat brought in to open the field up for the Patriots seemed to work out well.

0: The Jets attempted no kicks last week against Carolina, including two plays following scores where they opted to go for two. Not having a kicker or any actual confidence in him are telling factors when making your NFL picks.

Patriots vs Jets Player Prop Bets

Mac Jones U 31.5 Pass Attempts ( -105 at DraftKings ): Jones was locked in a tight battle last week, something that he won’t have to sweat against the Jets. New England already established a strong ground game. Don’t expect Jones to throw a ton, nor should he have to in order to win.

Jakobi Meyers O 4.5 Rec ( +100 at DraftKings ): The Jets defense won’t be able to stop everyone. Expect a heavy focus on Agholor and both tight ends, allowing Meyers a chance to get spacing between defenders. Meyers could easily be peppered for an increase in targets.

Damien Harris 100+ Rushing Yards (+100 at PointsBet): Harris comes off a strong performance where he ran downhill for most of the game amassing 100 yards. The Jets won’t be able to slow Harris down. Any of the betting sites offering even money on this prop is a bonus.

Patriots vs Jets Moneyline

The Patriots beating the Jets is the biggest lock of the weekend. Not only does it satisfy the narrative of NE being back, but also solidifies the Jets rebuild hasn’t quite arrived. Jones looks sharp, Harris can run and the defense is either healthy or back from sitting out last season. It’s the same story every year with the Jets, maybe things change next year, but not now and definitely not on Sunday. This is a great ML play on the Pats at BetMGM Sportsbook to anchor a parlay.

Patriots vs Jets Spread

The biggest reason why the Patriots cover is how difficult it will be for the Jets to come back. New York is down its best OL, struggling to find any running game and still lacking a game-breaking wideout. None of this benefits Wilson. No matter how good he individually looked last week, he needs help. The Patriots have a perfect balance of a QB in Jones who can stretch the field and a back in Harris who can seal any lead. Bet the Pats -6 at FanDuel.

Patriots vs Jets Total

Two rookie QBs headline this game, and we shouldn’t overthink anything more when it comes to total points. That number sits just above the key 41, and feeds into the narrative that defense is the biggest constant.

The one thing you can count on with the Jets, or at least more than anything else, is their defense can be competitive. They still lack talent but have shown a propensity to get to the QB. New England’s defense made it extremely difficult all game for Miami, a much better offense than the Jets. Grab the Under at DraftKings .
