NFC contenders face off in a marquee Monday Night Football matchup for Week 4, as Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions take on Geno Smith and the Seattle Seahawks at Ford Field. 

The Seahawks are one of only two unbeaten teams in the NFC through three weeks, paced by a dangerous passing attack and a defense that ranks second in yards allowed. The Lions are 2-1 and rank Top 10 on both sides of the ball.

Seattle certainly has advantages, notably in the passing game, and if they can rattle Goff. However, the NFL is a trench warfare game, and the Lions have massive advantages on both fronts. We’d like this line much more if it were -3, but the Lions' -3.5 is still a worthy play for Monday night.

Seahawks vs. Lions Over/Under

We know the Lions have talent all across the skill positions, but it hasn’t yet resulted in one of those overwhelming offensive games. The Under has hit in all three Detroit games so far, though the line was 51.5 or higher in all three. 

The Over is 2-1 in Seahawks games, though the line has been 42 or less in all three. Each team has mismatches to exploit, and Kenneth Walker III is expected to play for Seattle, boosting the run game. The Over at 46.5 points is good for secondary action.

Detroit is -180 on the moneyline, so it would take a $180 wager to win $100 in profit. Seattle is posted at +150. We like the Lions to cover, but what about a straight-up wager. 

The price is about the limit we like to go on moneylines, and given the success of underdogs, especially those getting more than a field goal, could make us balk a second time. But it could be worth a sprinkle. Giving 3.5 points keeps us from going all-in on Detroit. Consider sprinkling a little on the Lions to get the W.

There are ways to move the ball against the Lions, but getting the ball to RBs hasn’t been it. Detroit not only ranks No. 2 in the NFL in fewest rush yards allowed to RBs, but through three weeks has only given up five receptions for 17 yards. That means more passing, and Metcalf has been the most consistent and most dominant among Seattle’s pass weapons. Goff has finished Under this number twice in three games so far, and Seattle’s defensive strength is in its secondary. It can match up against the Lions’ top receivers, which should mean big-game potential for David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, Detroit’s talented RB duo.
