Once assured of top billing on the oddsmakers’ lists of Stanley Cup contenders, like Burt Reynolds on a Hollywood picture from 1975-80, the Detroit Red Wings are now far down the marquee, both with bettors and at sportsbooks and betting sites.
The Red Wings’ days as an NHL powerhouse atop the Stanley Cup odds are passed for about a decade now, but they are starting to get better under GM and franchise icon, Steve Yzerman. Let’s take a look at their chance in 2021-22, from a NHL betting perspective.
Red Wings Stanley Cup Odds
The Odds: +15000 at Caesars ➜
Believe it or not, I don’t think is a bad longshot bet. I would be tempted to put $100 on the Wings to win it all, at least at that payoff. I think Detroit has some very good young, developing players. I like their offseason pickup of goalie Alex Nedeljkovic from Carolina.
Yes, it’s a longshot and unlikely to cash, but this is a young team with aspirations. Stranger things have happened. OK, not many stranger things have happened. But they have happened. Take a flier at Caesars Sportsbook.

Red Wings Eastern Conference Odds
The Odds: +5000 at BetMGM ➜
It’s interesting to see how the NHL odds drop down fairly significantly on the prospect of Detroit winning the Eastern Conference as opposed to the Stanley Cup.
The Wings are actually overpriced at this number, but it perhaps gives a glimpse into how the betting apps don’t quite know what they have yet in these Wings. They are young and hungry, so there is always a bit of a “hey, maybe these guys might be better than we think” hesitation.

Red Wings Division Odds
The Odds: +10000 at FanDuel ➜
NHL futures have it as more of a longshot that the Red Wings win their division as opposed to the conference. With Detroit, Tampa Bay, Toronto and Boston all in the Atlantic Division, it makes sense. For the Wings to have a shot at this, they have to get off to a great start and get some early confidence. That’s going to be hard.

Red Wings Player Props
Vezina Trophy: Alex Nedeljkovic
The Odds: +2200 at DraftKings ➜
Newly acquired from Carolina, this youngster has some real talent. He was very good for a Hurricanes team that made the playoffs. He could be a real steal for Yzerman, and he’s without question the Red Wings’ best hope for a Cinderella season. He’s very quick on his feet and seems to have a bit of a swagger. Goalies need that.
Calder Trophy: Lucas Raymond
The Odds: +2500 at DraftKings ➜
The fourth pick overall in the 2020 NHL draft, Raymond is a Swede with a scoring touch. He is a longshot, but Detroit has had a lot of luck with Swedish prospects in their past (Henrik Zetterberg, Tomas Holmstrom, Johan Franzen, Nick Lidstrom). He is a forward who should get good ice time with this club, so that could really up his chances for the rookie of the year award.
