New York, welcome to the wonderful world of sports betting, specifically on your mobile phone. New York online sports betting officially went live on Saturday at 9 a.m. ET, with a number of operators including Caesars Sportsbook New York and DraftKings New York accepting wagers from bettors in the Empire State.

For you New York Rangers fans - and we know there are a lot of you - here is a primer on the Rangers, now and for the future as it pertains to NHL betting.

We’ll start out with a forecast of Saturday’s Rangers game in Anaheim against the Ducks, then make some NHL futures predictions.

Rangers Moneyline over Ducks

I’m a bit surprised the Rangers aren’t more of a favorite on the moneyline for this game, at the Honda Center. While the Ducks have been better than most expected this season, I feel like they’ll start trending down now. They just don’t have a lot of depth still, while the Rangers have been one of the league’s more consistent teams so far.

Home teams have won seven of the last eight meetings between these clubs, so don’t bet the ranch on New York here. But I like the visitors to get the victory. Rangers starting goalie Igor Shesterkin entered the COVID protocol on Thursday, but I still like New York here.

New York Rangers To Win The Stanley Cup

Odds: +2500 at DraftKings

You know what? I think this is a great bargain for a Stanley Cup betting pick.

The Rangers have the kind of team that I think will excel in the playoffs. They are bigger and tougher than last year’s squad, and they have a coach (Gerard Gallant) who has proven he can take a team deep into the postseason. He took the expansion Vegas Golden Knights to the Stanley Cup Final, for instance.

The Rangers entered the weekend tied for the Metropolitan Division lead, and it will be hard for them NOT to make the playoffs at this point.

I think the Rangers will make a push for another goalscorer at the NHL trade deadline, even though they have some good sticks already on the squad, in guys such as Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad. People forget, this team also has the current Norris Trophy winner in Adam Fox. Shesterkin is not a proven playoff goalie, so there is some worry there. But he’s been good so far this season.

I think the Rangers are undervalued at these NHL odds, so act quick before the bookmakers wake up.

Adam Fox To Win The Norris Trophy

Odds: +400 at FanDuel

Entering January, I think Colorado’s Cale Makar is the clear front-runner for the trophy as the NHL’s best defenseman. The odds, at +250 on New York betting apps, reflect that.

But don’t discount Fox making a strong second-half push to win his second straight. He’s having another good season, and he gets more exposure playing in New York than Makar does in Denver.

The voting for the trophy - along with others for players - counts the regular season only. The Rangers should win plenty of games, and Fox gets a lot of ice time for them. It’s not at all out of the question he could win a second straight Norris.

For now, I think this is a bit overpriced at +400 with FanDuel New York. It seems like Makar’s trophy to lose. But there’s still a of regular-season hockey to be played.
