The Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday announced an exclusive, multi-year agreement with Rivers Casino and BetRivers.com to become the official casino and sportsbook of the five-time Stanley Cup champions.

The deal also features a branded, BetRivers Sportsbook-style hi-tech lounge at the Penguins’ home, PPG Paints Arena, according to a news release.

The lounge, which will be created by removing several top rows of section 120, will have two rows of luxury seating where Penguins fans can watch their game live, while betting on the NHL via the BetRivers Pennsylvania mobile app on their phones.

No live sportsbook tellers or self-service kiosks will be available to accept wagers. The space will also feature a bar with seating and club chairs with several live action TV screens.

BetRivers-branded Advertising

The agreement calls for Rivers Casino and BetRivers branding and advertising inside PPG Paints Arena.

“This is an exciting extension of our longstanding relationship with Rivers,” David Morehouse, president and CEO of the Penguins, said in a news release. “The BetRivers Lounge is one of a number of projects we are undertaking at PPG Paints Arena to provide and enhanced and safe fan experience in a post-COVID environment.”

The fifth-seeded Penguins lost to the 12th-seeded Montreal Canadiens in four games of their best-of-five qualifying round for the NHL playoffs in August. The Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning play Game 3 of the Stanley Cup final tonight with the series tied 1-1.

“Pittsburgh is a hockey town and the Penguins have a rich history of success, winning the Stanley Cup on five occasions, most recently with their back-to-back Cups in 2016 and 2017,” said Mattias Stetz, chief operating officer of Rush Street Interactive (RSI), the operator of BetRivers.com. “As two organizations that share a commitment to excellence in providing sports fans with unparalleled experiences, BetRivers.com is proud to be the exclusive sportsbook of this winning franchise and the pride of Pittsburgh.”

Other NHL Sports Betting Deals

In October 2019, Rivers Casino Philadelphia and BetRivers launched a similar sports lounge within Wells Fargo Center, home of the Philadelphia Flyers (NHL) and Philadelphia 76ers (NBA).

Two years ago, William Hill opened a sports betting lounge within the Prudential Center, home of the New Jersey Devils, in Newark, New Jersey, where lines for all sporting events were posted and you could sign up for a William Hill online betting account. No teller windows and self-service kiosks were on the premises.

In early August 2020, the Washington Capitals (NHL) and Washington Wizards (NBA) home — Capital One Arena — became the first professional sports venue in the United States to offer betting teller windows, along with self-service kiosks operated by William Hill, its first bricks-and-mortar sportsbook in the District of Columbia.

Seven teller windows and 10 self-serve kiosks are made available to the public in the arena’s will call ticket area.

RSI was the first online gaming company to launch online sports wagering in Pennsylvania. It also operates online sportsbooks in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana and New Jersey.

The NHL also has partnerships with FanDuel, MGM Resorts and William Hill.
