2023 Australian Open Day 14 Predictions & Best Bets

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Novak Djokovic

By all accounts, Novak Djokovic is primed to win his tenth Australian Open title and 22nd Grand Slam title, tying a record currently held by Rafael Nadal as the winningest player in the majors.

The former World No. 1 is tipped as high as -550 with FanDuel and at a best price of -455 with BetMGM to come through with what will be a historic victory on Sunday.

Baked into Djokovic’s overwhelming favor across the betting sites is his flawless form since the fall of last year, which saw him cap his campaign with the ATP World Tour title in Turin.

The 35-year-old Serbian burst out of the gates in 2023 behind a 5-0 record and a title in Adelaide and then carried that momentum into Melbourne where he’s won six straight to reach the final. He relinquished just two sets during his 11 matches and seven of those also saw him lose no more than eight games.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is through to his second career Grand Slam final and first-ever Down Under, but it’s not without some irony that he will face the very same player that denied him in his first stab at major glory. Djokovic defeated Tsitsipas in the 2021 French Open final, storming back from two sets down to win it in five.

There is no challenge tougher than Djokovic at the Australian Open. His dominance over the event is comparable only to Rafael Nadal’s at the French Open. A quick look at the various betting apps reveals that Tsitsipas is tipped as low as +350 at Caesars and at a best price of +390 with FanDuel.

On that note, Tsitsipas trails Djokovic 2-10 in their lifetime head-to-head series, including a nine-match losing streak since his last win over the Serbian at the 2019 Shanghai Masters.

Five of their ten meetings came in the final of a tournament, all of which were won by Djokovic. The last final they played was at the inaugural 2022 Astana Open in Kazakhstan, which Djokovic won 6-3, 6-4. Their last meeting was in the round-robin stage of the 2022 Nitto ATP Finals, which Djokovic won as well, 6-5. 7-6 (4).

Clearly, everything points to a Djokovic win here. By the stats, H2Hs and form, it’s hard to see a path to victory for Tsitsipas. Then there is the prospect of clinching the No. 1 ranking with the title and the legacy aspect as well for Djokovic, which is a source of great motivation in the autumn of his career. Adding all of these things together and it seems de rigueur to bet on Djokovic.

That said, Tsitsipas has been the most consistent Top 10 player in recent years and the one that has been pushing the envelope at the majors. He might be a longshot punt as the tennis betting markets would suggest, but the reality, arguably, is that he’s due a major victory.

Yup, that’s right. You heard it here first. Tsitsipas to win.

Best Australian Open Pick: Tsitsipas +390 at FanDuel Sportsbook
