The Triple Crown is the three-tiered jewel of horse racing. But the Breeders’ Cup Classic? That’s the sport’s Super Bowl. The top horses from around the world converge at Santa Anita for the annual Breeders’ Cup weekend. 

Of the 12 races on Saturday’s card, nine of them are Grade 1 races with at least $1 million in prize money. The headliner is the Breeders’ Cup Classic, with a payout of $6 million. 

Bookies.com handicapper Adam Thompson crushed all three Triple Crown racedays. Now he has set his sights on the 2023 Breeders’ Cup, the biggest single weekend of horse racing. 

He’s made picks on every race of the day, none bigger than the Breeders’ Cup Classic. The 13-horse field goes to post at 5:40 p.m. ET. 

Thompson just missed on a big payday for the Derby but got paid on six of the seven other races that Saturday and nailed a massive 42/1 Exacta Box on Friday to finish up huge on the weekend.

2023 Breeders’ Cup Classic At Santa Anita Park

Saturday, Nov. 4 | 5:40 p.m. ET | NBC

There are 13 horses in the main even of the weekend at Santa Anita, and not a slouch among them. It makes picking a winner very difficult, more so than picking 2-3 in an exotics wager (which we’ll be doing as well). 

But we need to pick a victor, and we’ll go big with an underdog in SAUDI CROWN (#6, 12-1 morning line odds). The horse has just five career races, but three of them were wins and the other two were losses by a neck. 

His last race, the Grade 1 Pennsylvania Derby, produced a winning time on par with other top contenders at similar distances. 

Saudi Crown is a frontrunner, so in a packed field, he can get ahead and avoid the major traffic. The question is whether he can hold on. 

That’s why we prefer our Exacta Box bet, choosing three horses to finish in the top two. Along with Saudi Crown, we’ll add ZANDON (#2, 12-1), the Chad Brown-trained entrant whose speed times have improved in each race this year. 

And we’ll add USHBA TESORO (#8, 4-1), a Japanese entrant who has never lost a graded race, including a win at the 

2023 Dubai World Cup at this same distance. 

That means we’re fading race favorite ARABIAN KNIGHT (#12, 3-1), who has won three of four races and checks most of the boxes, though his speed times haven’t been as impressive as others in this deep and talented field. 

We’re preferring instead to go big on some big dogs. We are adding the Bob Baffert entrant in our trifecta box, just in case.
