3M Open Expert Pick

Doug Ghim Top-10 Finish

Odds: +500 at DraftKings

Ghim continues to improve in his first full season on Tour, and we expect him to thrive this week in his second appearance at the 3M Open.

The course seems like a great fit for his game and we saw it last year as Ghim bounced out of a big funk. He came to TPC Twin Cities having missed seven of his last eight cuts and played solid all week for a T-18 finish. He has more confidence now and will be familiar with the layout. He’s also been trending up in recent starts.

Ghim has made four of his last five cuts, improving on a T-32 at the Rocket Mortgage with a T-18 in his most recent start at the John Deere Classic. He’s pure with the irons and plays a great tee-to-green game for a course like this, with tons of water and potential trouble – Ghim ranks 11th on Tour in greens in regulation and 29th in driving accuracy.

On top of all that, we’re expecting low scores and Ghim ranks 33rd on Tour in birdie average. He’s also well-rested after a week off, unlike the British Open participants in the field. On the betting apps, we’re on Ghim for a top-10 finish.

3M Open Betting Tips

This isn’t a short golf course by any means, but the 3M Open isn’t a great week for the bomb-and-gauge crowd. The course has hazards everywhere with water coming into play on 12 holes. And while the fairways are relatively generous, the big miss off the tee will usually find serious trouble.

There’s not a whole lot to the green complexes, so it’s fine to take average to below-average putters who are hitting it great tee-to-green. Distance off the tee is certainly helpful this week, but accuracy is more important than you usually see at events that yield winning scores around 20-under-par. Those in control of their golf ball should be able to score with ease, but all the water means you don’t want to pick scrambling wizards who tend to spray it around.

If you're thinking about a wager or heading to a sportsbook, our advice is to mostly forget about putting stats for the week and focus on players who tend to hit it flush and keep it on the fairways.
