The 2019 Triple Crown has been a wild ride. It comes to a conclusion on Saturday with the third jewel: the Belmont Stakes in Elmont, New York. There’s no Triple Crown on the line but a number of horses are looking for redemption.

Since the first two Triple Crown races have produced surprises, including one of the biggest Kentucky Derby long-shot winners in history, we’re looking for one more on Saturday. We’re picking longs hots to win, so here are three good ones with odds of 12/1 or longer for fans of horse racing betting to consider.

  1. Intrepid Heart (12/1)

Todd Pletcher’s Intrepid Heart is an intriguing pick at 12/1. He’s the son of Tapit, who has sired three of the past five Belmont Stakes winners. That’s a good pedigree. His Dam – Flaming Heart – was also sired by a Belmont Stakes winner.

Pletcher told reporters this week that this horse was specifically guided to the Belmont Stakes as they feel he’s a perfect fit for the race.

He doesn’t have a huge track record, winning an allowance and finishing third at the Peter Pan Stakes. At the same time, I do like that he didn’t run in either the Kentucky Derby or the Preakness Stakes. That means that he’s fresh and might be fresher than horses like War of Will or Tacitus, who are among the favorites.

The pedigree is strong with this one. That’s what puts him in consideration here.

  2. Bourbon War (12/1)

Bourbon War had an odd showing at the Preakness Stakes, finishing a surprising eighth. It’s somewhat unclear why that happened as this horse had never finished worse than fourth.

Even though he has just two wins to his name, he ran well in the losses too, finishing fourth in the Florida Derby, a race which disqualified Kentucky Derby winner Maximum Security won, and second in the Fountain of Youth, a race which eventual Kentucky Derby winner Code of Honor took.

I’m willing to take a shot here because trainer Mark Hennig switched jockeys, going from Irad Ortiz Jr. to Mike Smith. He’s a Hall of Fame jockey who has won the Belmont Stakes three times, including last year with Justify.

  3. Tax (16/1)

Tax has the second-longest odds to win the 2019 Belmont Stakes but there are some positives to keep in mind with this horse.

This three-year-old Gelding finished 14th in the Kentucky Derby but had finished in the money in each of his other three starts. That includes a third-place finish in the Remsen, second in the Wood Memorial (runner-up to Tacitus) and a win at the Withers.

However, one important note here are his Brisnet speed figures. He has three triple-digit Brisnet speed figures in his career, which is two more than any other horse in this field. After a disappointing result at the Kentucky Derby, maybe he gets back in the money in this race.
