CJ Cup 2021 Picks, Predictions & Betting Odds To Back

Dan Kilbridge | 22 mins

The golf betting action is loaded this week with a top-heavy field including multiple-major champions, Olympic winners and some of the biggest names on Tour gathering for the CJ Cup at the Summit Club in Las Vegas.
This tournament was played in Korea from 2017-2019 before it moved to Las Vegas in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jason Kokrak won last year’s event at Shadow Creek - the CJ Cup heads to a new course in 2021, with the Summit Club set to host a Tour event for the first time.
This is a no-cut event, with 78 top-ranked players comprising the limited field.
World No. 2 Dustin Johnson is a slight betting favorite at +1000 odds. He’s coming off a 5-0 performance at the Ryder Cup entering his first start of the new season. Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele are right behind him with +1200 odds at sportsbooks, followed by Collin Morikawa and Rory McIlroy at +1600 for the week on betting sites. Morikawa is also a member at Summit Club, which figures to give him a big advantage.
Jordan Spieth rounds out the top six at +2000 odds as he makes his 2021-22 season debut.

CJ Cup Expert Pick & Predictions
Aaron Wise Top-10 Finish
Odds: +450 at DraftKings ➜
Wise has been trending up in recent starts, and he’s +450 for a top-10 finish on betting apps.
Wise had a great week for a T-8 finish last week at TPC Summerlin, and he’ll be well-rested for a second straight week in Las Vegas. Wise was positive in all Strokes Gained categories at TPC Summerlin, finishing 17-under-par. That marked his fourth straight finish of T-26 or better dating back to last season.
Wise has more than enough distance off the tee to tackle this modern layout, averaging 315.3 yards though two events. He’s also been more accurate with the driver of late and definitely isn’t afraid to go low, finishing 26hth on Tour in birdie average last season.
We like the direction Wise’s game is heading, and we like how this course sets up for him. His relative lack of course experience at age 25 also doesn’t hurt him this week, with almost every player in the field seeing the Summit Club for the first time.
We think the golf odds are fair here, and we’re on Wise for another top-10 finish this week in the desert.

CJ Cup Betting Tips
We don’t have much to go on in terms of course expectations. This is the first significant event Summit Club has ever hosted. Morikawa is a member here, and Maverick McNealy (+8000) reportedly lives on property at the swanky new development. Elsewhere, most guys in the field outside of the few Vegas residents will be seeing this place for the first time.
This figures to be one of the longer setups on Tour, listed at 7,431 yards for the week. The par-5s range from 550 yards to 614 yards, while the par-3s have a lot of variety ranging from the 138-yard seventh to the 235-yard 11th.
We’re still expecting a shootout with this event coming together in just the past few months. The course lobbied hard to land this event and the setup should be player-friendly. With that in mind, we’re looking at driving distance and birdie average as two key indicators for the CJ Cup. We also think guys who played last week’s event should get a slight boost from the easy travel week.
