2024 College Football Week 8 Best Bets To Back Today

College Football 2024 Week 8 Odds, Predictions, Other Bets To Make Today 1

Thursday, October 17
Boston College at Virginia Tech, 7:30 p.m. (ESPN)

Buzz: Billy O’Brien and his BC Eagles gained plenty of buzz early in the season. But injuries and reality have caught up to BC. The Eagles have a bye after a 10-point loss to a less-than-top-tier Virginia team. This week, they cross the Commonwealth (no, that other Commonwealth) and visit Blacksburg. The Hokies have a solid, balanced offensive attack – with RB Bhayshul Tuten powering through opposing defenses. The Hokies reached 3-3 with an impressive 24-point win at Stanford (yes, that's an ACC school this year.) A fully-healthy BC should keep it close enough for the cover.

Best Bet: Boston College -7 (-110) at BetMGM

Friday, October 18
Oregon at Purdue, 8 p.m. (NBC)

Buzz: The Ducks moved into the No. 2 spot in the newest AP Top 25 poll after a thrilling 32-31 win over Ohio State in Eugene. Oregon stomped into the Big Ten this season and will be in the conference title game if they win out. Can they cover this 4-touchdown number against the 1-5 Boilermakers? Well, Purdue missed knocking off ranked Illinois in a 50-49 loss. Purdue plays Ohio State and Penn State later this season. So the outcome of this game could end up in a tiebreaker. Still, this number is too big.

Best Bet: Purdue +28.5 (-110) at BetMGM

Miami at Louisville, 12 p.m. (ABC)

Buzz: If the ‘Canes hope to earn a spot in the ACC title game – a win on the road in Louisville would go a long way in terms of street cred. The Cardinals make life miserable for their guests. Louisville has tormented Miami going back to the days of Teddy Bridgewater. The Cards play hard and physical football. And their roster will be highly motivated. This number has been cut to 3.5 points since it opened at 6.5.

Best Bet: Louisville +3.5 (-110) at BetMGM

Alabama at Tennessee, 12 p.m. (ABC)

Buzz: The Tide will never live down their loss to Vanderbilt on October 5. That will be a talker on the Paul Finebaum IX Show in 2094. Tennessee’s road to a perfect season slipped off to Hog Heaven later that same night. The winner keeps its hopes alive for a spot in the SEC title game alive with a win. But the loser is out. And may be looking in on the expanded 12-team playoff. Both teams won close calls in Week 7. But the Tide is too deep on both sides of the ball here.

Best Bet: Alabama -2.5 (-110) at BetMGM

South Carolina at Oklahoma, 12:45 p.m. (SEC Network)

Buzz: Freshman QB Michael Hawkins had the Sooners in the College Football Playoff chase until the Sooners got routed in the Red River Rivalry game by Texas. This number collapsed from 7.5 to 3 in the wake that loss. South Carolina will be a welcome relief, especially at home. The Gamecocks pushed Alabama to its limit before falling short at Tuscaloosa 27-25 on Saturday.

Best Bet: Oklahoma -3 (-110) at BetMGM

Michigan at Illinois, 3:30 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: The Big Ten has 16 teams and about a dozen surprises this season. The Fighting Illini’ are near the top of the list. Illinois is ranked in the Top 25. They lost any hope of making the B1G title game when they lost (but covered) at Penn State. Then barely beat Purdue. Michigan plays its second-straight road game after a loss at Washington (yep, that’s a B1G school this year) and a bye. Oddsmakers have finally caught up with the Illini. But they’ll be primed for this national TV spot.

Best Bet: Illinois +2 (-110) at BetMGM

Georgia at Texas, 7:30 p.m. (SEC Network)

Buzz: The latest biggest SEC game of the year has Georgia visiting College Station as these teams meet for the first time as SEC foes. The Longhorns manhandled Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry, hammering the Sooners like they were a JV team. Georgia's lone loss was the result of a bad first half against Alabama. The Dawgs need to run the ball in order for Carson Beck to be effective. Texas' defensive front is fierce. And deep. Quinn Ewers threw for 199 yards, and 1 TD on 20-of-29 passing against the Sooners. That's all that was needed. Texas' Quintrevion Wisner and Gunnar Helm combined for 209 yards rushing against OU. This number has moved a point since Sunday, with the Longhorns attracting the early money.

Best Bet: Texas -3.5 (-110) at BetMGM
