Kevin Harvick snapped a 65-race winless skid with his triumph last weekend at Michigan, in the process rewarding NASCAR bettors who had faith in a driver with odds of +2500 to win at top sportsbooks. And now this unpredictable season heads to Richmond, where for just the second time in 2022, the next-gen car will compete at a track for a second time.

The only other time that’s happened so far was at Atlanta, where top title contenders Chase Elliott and Ross Chastain finished 1-2 in a July return trip to the 1.5-mile oval. Denny Hamlin won the April race at Richmond, where this week he’s co-odds favorites with Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Martin Truex Jr. on the .75-mile short track.

Among the four Gibbs drivers, Truex has run the best overall, and he’s fifth or better in seven straight at Richmond (with three wins in that span)—through he has yet to reach Victory Lane this season. Hamlin has been all over the place this year, but he leads the Gibbs stable with two victories, including the last time out in the Virginia capital. Just another wrinkle for NASCAR betting fans to ponder as they prepare wagers for this week.

Federated Auto Parts 400 Betting Tips

Gibbs drivers actually occupy the top four places in NASCAR odds this week, with Kyle Busch and Christopher Bell right behind Truex and Hamlin. A crash at Michigan interrupted what has otherwise been a great month for Bell, who won four weeks ago in New Hampshire, and has been sixth or better over his last three Richmond starts. Six-time Richmond winner Busch has been ninth or better in nine straight there, though he’s mired in a stretch of eight straight double-digit finishes overall.

Before he broke through last week, Richmond in the spring was the closest Harvick had come to ending his skid, in a runner-up result that was his 12th top-10 in his last 15 starts at the track. Points leader Chase Elliott has come back to earth a bit after his five-week run of top-two finishes, and he’s been erratic at Richmond with a top finish there of second in 2018.

Richmond hasn’t been the best track for Chastain, who has just one top-10 there in seven starts. Alex Bowman has top-10s in three of his last four at Richmond, including a victory last season, and showed some renewed signs of life with a ninth-place run—his best finish in 10 weeks—at Michigan. And Austin Dillon is under-the-radar good at Richmond, with top-10s in five of his last seven starts on the short track, including a 10th there in April.

Ryan Blaney to Win

Odds: +1200 at DraftKings

The Penske driver led a race-best 128 laps at Richmond in the spring before fading to a seventh-place finish, and he’s backed by exactly the kind of elite team that can use the notes from that effort to close the gap the second time around at the same track. He’s also been very good on oval tracks, with a third-place run at Nashville in June being the closest he’s come to Victory Lane this season.

Denny Hamlin Top Toyota

Odds: +300 at DraftKings

We’re totally vexed on Hamlin, who’s as liable to finish 30th this season as he is third. But it's hard to argue with three straight top-two finishes on what’s essentially his home track. Expect his team to lean hard on what worked at Richmond during their winning effort there in the spring. For bettors, Hamlin also brings better value to lead the Toyota stable than for a top-three finish (+170).

Ryan Blaney & Martin Truex Jr., Both Top 5

Odds: +400 at DraftKings

Dig around in the specials and you occasionally find gems like this one, which pairs the lap leader from the spring race at Richmond with the co-odds favorite on betting apps to win this week. It also allows bettors to incorporate Truex and his amazing Richmond track record into their betting portfolio at far better value than taking the Gibbs driver to finish solo top-three, which like Hamlin is offered at +170.
