Who will be left standing when the dust settles?
Denmark’s Holger Rune, Americans Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Coco Gauff, and defending champion Iga Swiatek are just a handful of those that hope to book a spot in the R16 and keep their championship hopes alive.
As ever, we will be bringing you daily predictions and tennis picks from Roland Garros here at Bookies.com. So without further ado, let’s take a deep dive into Saturday’s tennis-betting card and spot the best French Open Day 7 predictions, complete with tennis odds from the top-rated betting apps.
French Open Day 7 Best Bets
Zhizhen Zhang vs Casper Ruud
Casper Ruud was tested in his second-round match as he dropped a set to Giulio Zeppieri. By contrast, Zhizhen Zhang got a bit of a pass in the first round with Dusan Lajovic bowing out after two sets. He then upset Botic Van De Zandschulp in straight sets.
Ruud carries the weight of expectation. Not only is he favored considerably in this match as we look at the odds with various betting sites, but he has a lot of points to defend as well from last year’s runner-up finish. The fact that he’s yet to tap into the scintillating form that saw him enjoy a banner 2022 campaign is another concern.
Zhang is a dangerous floater, He reached the quarterfinals in Madrid, overcoming top players such as Cam Norrie and Taylor Fritz on the way. Such results show he can be competitive at the very least if not a potential stumbling block for Ruud. Expect a drawn-out contest that extends to four or five sets.
French Open Best Bet: Over 32.5
Holger Rune vs Genaro Alberto Olivier
Gael Monfils’ withdrawal before the start of his highly anticipated R64 match against Holger Rune gave the Dane a bit of a reprieve. He goes into the third round well-rested, having played just four sets.
It’s a different situation for qualifier Genaro Alberto Olivieri’s, who’s had to work exceptionally hard to reach this stage of the French Open, clocking a lot more hours and playing nine sets through the first two rounds. His legs are sure to be feeling it.
Rune presents a step up in quality and talent for the clay aficionado. While Olivieri is bound to go for broke, Rune should make short work of him.
French Open Best Bet: Rune in three sets
Francisco Cerundolo vs Taylor Fritz
Although Taylor Fritz isn’t a natural clay courter, he’s taken to the surface like duck to water. He’s enjoyed a solid European clay run and backs it up by reaching the third round – albeit against lesser opposition in Michael Mmoh and veteran Arthur Rinderknech.
Francisco Cerundolo is the quintessential dirt-baller, however, a true artist on the red clay that knows how to construct points, defends well and can dictate play with his explosive groundstrokes from the baseline. Importantly, he’s on good form and playing with confidence after earning good results in the lead up to the French Open.
Bookmakers are being optimistic about Fritz’s chance, installing him as the favorite. But smarter money (so the gut says) would appear to be on Cerundolo.
French Open Best Bet: Cerundolo
Coco Gauff vs Mirra Andreeva
The all-teenage clash between Coco Gauff and Mirra Andreeva provides an unexpected glimpse into the future of the women’s game. Nobody saw Andreeva coming or would have predicted that the Russian16-year-old would -- on her maiden foray, no less, -- go so deep into the French Open.
But she has. Granted. this is not the first time Andreeva punches above her perceived weight class. She did it last month in Madrid where she reached the R16, upsetting established players along the way, such as Beatriz Maia Haddad and Leylah Fernandez. But it is one thing to do it in Madrid. Another entirely to do it on the iconic courts of Roland Garros..
Gauff has a lot of points to defend in Paris after reaching her maiden Grand Slam final in Paris last year. Although she’s the toughest opponent (on paper) Andreeva will have faced so far, one can’t overlook the potential for the upset. After all, the pressure is going to be exclusively on the American teen shoulders and coupled with her ongoing struggles this season, it would be a shocker.
French Open Best Bet: Andreeva
Iga Swiatek vs Xinyu Wang
Defending champion Iga Swiatek, the prohibitive betting favorite, is on a tear on her beloved clay. She’s through to the R32 without dropping a set and twice serving up bagels.
China’s Xinyu Wang is another surprise package of the tournament reaching the third round behind an upset over Marie Bouzkova (R128) and Rebecca Peterson. It’s been a nice mini-Cinderella run, but don’t expect it to continue at the expense of Swiatek.
French Open Best Bet: Swiatek -7.5
