Jesse Lingard Next Team Odds: LA Galaxy Most Likely MLS Landing Spot

Adam Thompson | 4 mins

The latest departure from Manchester United could be a boost to Major League Soccer.
Jesse Lingard, who played for United last season, left the team on a free transfer in June, making him an unrestricted free agent. Several Premier League teams are interested in adding the forward to their lineup, but Lingard is taking his time and weighing all options.
Apparently, that includes a hop across the pond.
ESPN reports Lingard, 29, is coming to the United States to take pitches from MLS teams hoping to sign him. His representatives have noted “ground-breaking” potential in opportunities to come to the States.
Several bookmakers in the United Kingdom are offering soccer odds on Lingard's next team with the likes of West Ham and Everton strongly linked in England, but we wanted to consider only his best MLS opportunities.
So, our Bookies.com handicapper Adam Thompson has created Lingard's projected odds for his likeliest MLS destination and provided accompanying analysis on each of Lingard's options in the United States.

Getting Lingard to any MLS team would be a win for the league. After all, it's competing with the likes of West Ham and Everton of the EPL. Global powerhouses Barcelona and AC Milan have also been in touch.
Playing time may be a consideration as he looks to secure a spot for England at the 2022 World Cup. He’ll get more of it in MLS but the standard of league may put him out of international consideration. Lingard received little playing time down the stretch for Manchester United, getting just two starts, but he was fantastic for West Ham on loan in 2021.
Los Angeles is often the top destination of choice for Europeans making the bold move. Welsh star Gareth Bale inked a deal for 2022 with Los Angeles FC after nearly 400 appearances with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid.
The Galaxy reportedly are one of two teams expected to make a big offer to Lingard. They’re looking to fight back against their LA rivals, who rank No. 1 in the MLS standings at about the halfway point of the season. New York City FC, which is No. 4 in the Eastern Conference, is also in the mix, as is East-leading New York Red Bulls.
Lingard is training and spending vacation time in Miami, perhaps offering a shot for the relatively new Eastern Conference franchise Inter Miami, partly owned by David Beckham.
Does any other MLS squad have a shot at Lingard? Any ownership group with deep pockets could use a “Designated Player” deal so Lingard’s contract isn’t included in the salary cap. The two New York franchises rank 1-2 in richest owners, while those in Dallas, Colorado and the expansion Charlotte franchise are near the top.
Atlanta United and Seattle Sounders FC are ranked top five in team value. Atlanta has MLS’ biggest payroll in 2022, followed by LA Galaxy, Inter Miami, defending champion New England Revolution and the Chicago Fire.
