After a challenging year that went about as smoothly as possible by all accounts, this week serves as another reminder that the PGA Tour isn’t quite back to normal yet.
Jon Rahm’s withdrawal with a six-shot lead after his positive COVID-19 test at The Memorial stunned the sports world, and this week the golf betting takes another interesting turn at the one-off Palmetto Championship at Congaree Golf Club in Ridgeland, South Carolina.
The Palmetto Championship takes the place of the RBC Canadian Open, which was cancelled for the second straight year due to the ongoing border closure between the US and Canada. This is the first Tour event at the brand new course, a 2017 Tom Fazio design.
The field is light on A-listers ahead of next week’s U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, but there are a few stars in the mix on top of the betting board. South Carolina native Dustin Johnson is the favorite at +775. Brooks Koepka is next at +850 while Tyrrell Hatton (+1200) and Matthew Fitzpatrick (+1300) round out the top four, according to the latest golf odds.

Palmetto Championship Picks & Betting Tips
Luke List Top-10 Finish (+500)
List is one of the longest guys on Tour. That should serve him well at this long, modern course.
While he had an awful putting week and missed the Memorial cut, List was second in the field in Strokes Gained Off The Tee. He also ranks eighth on Tour this season in the same category. List has missed two consecutive cuts but has three top-10s this season and posted a T-6 at the Wells Fargo last month. This is a weaker field than we’ve seen the last few weeks and the course should fit List’s game. We’re on List for a top-10 finish at BetMGM.

Palmetto Championship Betting Tips
It’s always challenging trying to handicap a field at a course that’s never hosted a Tour event before. All we have to go on is a yardage book and firsthand accounts from players once they arrive on site.
Our initial impression: The shorter hitters will have a very tough time this week. The front nine features a 540-yard par-4 and a total yardage of 7,655 is very long for a par 71. It looks like missed fairways won’t be quite as punishing as they were last week at Muirfield Village, where accuracy off the tee was just as, if not more important, than distance. Not the case this week.
We’re looking at big hitters off the tee like List and guys who are otherwise in strong form building up to the U.S. Open. We’ll also take a few serious longshots considering the strength of field declines so drastically after the top six guys.
