This is the time of year when the golf betting is starting to get real. Silly season is well behind us, the Masters is 30 days away and the Florida swing continues with the PGA Tour’s flagship event in the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

The biggest purse of the year annually draws the top field in golf and everything is on the table when looking at betting options for what is always a complete test of the golf game.

World No. 1 Jon Rahm and defending champ Justin Thomas are co-favorites with +1000 odds on betting sites and betting apps. Reigning British Open champ Collin Morikawa and Rory McIlroy are next on the board at +1600, while Arnold Palmer Invitational winner Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Cantlay are next at +2000.

Last week’s runner-up, Viktor Hovland, is seventh on the board with golf odds of +2200.

2022 Players Championship Pick

Keegan Bradley Top 10 Finish

Odds: +1000 at BetMGM ➜

Bradley actually lost strokes to the field with his iron play last week, and that’s usually his biggest strength. He still managed to piece the rest of the game together and log a T-11 finish in extremely difficult conditions at Bay Hill. Now we think he’s ready to contend again on the bigger stage.

Bradley has a top-10 finnish already this season at the ZoZo Championship, and he’s made the cut in eight of his last nine starts. Four of those resulted in a finish of T-26 or better, and we think this could be the week he puts it all together.

The 35-year-old has played well at TPC Sawgrass with five consecutive cuts made and three straight finishes inside the top 30. He was also T-7 at the 2018 Players and looks poised to make another run at it.

We like the odds at BetMGM on Bradley for a top-10 finish at +1000.

2022 Players Championship Betting Tips

First and foremost – check the weather reports. The forecast is calling for tons of rain and potentially nasty winds throughout the week. Those early/late pairing splits can be incredibly lopsided in terms of conditions, so tee times and weather updates are priority No. 1 this week for betting and DFS purposes.

Elsewhere, TPC Sawgrass does provide a truly complete test. There is no one skill or type of player that shines above the rest in the Players. It takes a solid effort throughout the bag and the ability to hit multiple shot shapes under pressure. Distance is a bonus but not all that important, as we’ve seen with previous winners like Webb Simpson and Matt Kuchar.

The rain might be somewhat of an equalizer on the greens this week, so we’re really focusing hard on Strokes Gained Approach. It will be extremely important to create birdie chances on potentially-receptive greens, and the sharpest irons/wedge players will have the biggest advantage. Course history is also very important here. Some guys love the layout and others can’t stand it, which comes through pretty clearly when breaking down past results.
