The second round of the US Open concludes on Thursday, August 31 with the bottom half of the women’s draw and the top half of the men’s draw back in action – all vying for a spot in the third round of the fourth and final major on the 2023 tennis calendar.

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will headline the men’s tennis-betting card, along with former US Open champion Daniil Medvedev, Canada Open champion Jannik Sinner and former US Open finalist Alexander Zverev, to name a few.

On the women’s front, reigning Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka will lead the star-studded field, with three-time major finalist Ons Jabeur, Canada Open champion Jessica Pegula and former US Open finalist Madison Keys also in action.

As ever, we here at Bookies.com will be covering the action, cherry-picking the best matches on the day’s slate to spot for your daily tennis picks

So without further ado, let’s take a deep dive into Thursday’s action and spot the best bets with our US Open Day 4 predictions, complete with tennis odds from the most trusted betting apps

Jack Draper vs Hubert Hurkacz

Hubert Hurkacz survived a scare against Marc-Andrea Huesler, as he was forced to come back from two sets down to win 4-6, 5-7, 7-6 (0),6-3, 6-1. However, things won’t be getting any easier for the 26-year-old Pole with Jack Draper waiting in the wings.

The up-and-coming Briton breezed past Radu Albot in the first round in straight sets, leaving him in good nick for this contest. Granted, he’s lost to Hurkacz on two previous occasions, but both times he managed to take a set off the Pole. And for that reason, a bet on the totals here is worth an interest.

Alternatively, there’s also the option to go the whole hog and back Draper for the upset. If there’s a top seed that is vulnerable to an early upset, Hurkacz fits the bill.

US Open Best Bet: Draper to win +160 at DraftKings

Lorenzo Sonego vs Jannick Sinner

The all-Italian showdown between Sonego and Sinner is cornered with the latter on the tennis odds board for good reason. Sinner is the more accomplished player and he’s flush of his maiden Masters title.

In addition, he has the 2-0 edge in their series, which includes wins in Montpellier (indoor hard court) and Halle (grass) this season.

That said, these kinds of matchups between compatriots are never quite as straightforward as the oddsmakers would have it. There’s pride on the line, bragging rights, national acclaim….all sorts of stuff that is impossible to quantify.

This is going to particularly apply in Sonego’s case, who’ll be extra motivated for these reasons (and more) to get one over his lofty countryman.

So, while Sinner should win, it’s fair to say that Sonego could give him a run for his money.  It’s a risky longshot bet to back the outright upset (Sonego at +450 (ML) with FanDuel), but backing the over in totals betting looks like a good way to go.

US Open Best Bet: Over 35.5 -116 at FanDuel

Carlos Alcaraz vs Lloyd Harris

Alcaraz’s much-anticipated tournament opener ended abruptly when Dominik Koepfer was forced to retire midway through the second set due to an ankle injury. Next up for the 20-year-old Spaniard is Lloyd Harris, who advanced into the second round with a straight-set win over Guido Pella.

Although this is the first-ever meeting between them, the pair have practiced together on occasion. And in Alcaraz’s own words, he expects a tough challenge from the big-serving South African. Harris can do some damage on the faster hard courts if his serve is on point. Nevertheless, expect Alcaraz to advance in straight sets.

US Open Best Bet: Under 31.5 -120 at PointsBet

Daniil Medvedev vs Christopher O’Connell

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, made light work of Attila Balazs in a 6-1, 6-1, 6-0 evisceration. When you play that well, it’s easy to understand why bookmakers are spotting his next opponent Christopher O’Connell 8.5 points on the handicap.

O’Connell should be a much tougher challenge than Balazs was for the 27-year-old Russian. The 29-year-old Aussie took a set off Medvedev earlier this year in Doha before losing in three. That said, as capable as O’Connell is, Medvedev appears to be hitting his stride at the perfect time.

US Open Best Bet: Medvedev -8.5 +107 at BetRivers

Andy Murray vs Grigor Dimitrov

Sentimental tennis fans are going to be up for the clash of the 30-somethings when Andy Murray and Grigor Dimitrov reprise their rivalry at the US Open for a 12th career meeting.

Murray owns the head-to-head series 8-3. However, the last time the pair crossed paths at a tournament was back in 2016. As such, Dimitrov, who currently ranks higher and is enjoying a slightly better season, emerges as the notional favorite across tennis betting markets.

That said, Dimitrov was pushed to the brink in a five-set marathon against Alex Molcan. Indeed, the Bulgarian was a few points away from being bundled out of the tournament before he turned things around in the fifth-set tiebreaker.

Murray, by contrast, is through on the back of a straight-set win. And given the contrast between their first-round performances, surely the edge goes to Murray.

US Open Best Bet: Murray to win +104 at FanDuel

Ons Jabeur vs Linda Noskova

Jabeur, fighting the flu, barely made it through her first-round match. But somehow the 2022 US Open finalist managed to eke out the 7-5, 7-6(4) victory.

Linda Noskova looms next on the Tunisian trailblazer’s path. The Czech teenager overcame American Madison Brengle 6-2, 6-1. She’s still in the development stages of her career, but she’s a promising talent with huge upside. If Jabeur isn’t in top form and fighting fit, Noskova could very well spring a surprise here.

US Open Best Bet: Noskova +3.5 +100 at Caesars

Jessica Pegula vs Patricia Maria Tig

Patricia Maria Tig fell into a great section of the draw and capitalized on it by beating Rebecca Marino 7-6 (6), 7-6 (1). But things are going to get much tougher for the 29-year-old Romanian with a date against home favorite, Canadian Open champion and dark horse title contender Jessica Pegula.

US Open Best Bet: Under 16.5 -125 at bet365
