XFL Week 9 Odds, Picks & Predictions

With just two weeks remaining in the 2023 XFL betting season, just two teams have clinched playoff berths, and only two have been eliminated from consideration.
Three of the four games this weekend feature at least one team playing for their playoff lives. Two of the four games feature spreads of under two points. And we know from two weeks ago, when the 0-6 Guardians beat the 6-0 Defenders, that pretty much anything can happen.
Bookies.com NFL handicapper Adam Thompson has hit on 58.3% of his XFL picks so far (14-10). Here he breaks down the XFL Week 9 schedule and offers his XFL Week 9 best bets.

Vegas Vipers at Houston Roughnecks (-6.5, 43.5)
Vegas is out of the running for the playoffs, but can still play for pride here in a matchup that features favorable head-to-heads for the underdog. The Vipers’ brutal run defense shouldn’t be hurt badly by a Roughnecks side that can’t run.
The Vipers prefer to outgun opponents, and at worst it’s a fair split. Houston won the first matchup 34-27. Expect a similar score, hopefully one point closer than the last time, as we take the points on the road dog here.
Pick: Vipers +6.5
Orlando Guardians at San Antonio Brahmas (-1.5, 39.5)
I’ve backed Orlando more often than probably anyone, because it’s not a bad team. It just doesn’t win games! Neither does two-win San Antonio, which features the league’s worst offense by a mile.
The Guardians got smoked 30-12 when these teams met earlier, but have played tougher teams tough, lately. Back Orlando to find a way to get win No. 2 here.
Pick: Guardians +1.5

Arlington Renegades at D.C. Defenders (-8.5, 41.5)
The Defenders might be the XFL’s top team, but they don’t look unstoppable. They’re doing it by being the only team that runs with major success, and they rank No. 1 in rush yards allowed as well.
While Arlington doesn’t check all the boxes, it checks the right ones to keep the Defenders at bay, including a second-ranked run defense. Each of the Renegades’ last six games ended at 39 points or less, and averaged 28.8 ppg.
Pick: Under 41.5
Seattle Sea Dragons at St. Louis BattleHawks (-1, 46)
Two of the top-half teams facing off in the top matchup of the weekend. The first matchup between these teams came down to it, a 20-18 BattleHawks win in Seattle.
The BattleHawks have won three in a row, but the Sea Dragons have taken six of seven, the lone defeat a one-pointer vs. one-loss D.C. Seattle’s top-ranked pass defense may make it tougher going here, but it can also run the ball, and St. Louis is the very worst at stopping it. It should be close again, but Seattle can get the rematch.
Pick: Sea Dragons +1
