2021 ZOZO Championship Odds, Picks & Predictions: Schauffele, Morikawa Favored

Dan Kilbridge | 22 mins

The ZOZO Championship is back in Japan for 2021, and the golf betting will be in full swing with several A-listers and big names topping the field.
Patrick Cantlay won last year’s event, which was temporarily moved to Sherwood Country Club in California due to the pandemic. Now it returns to Narashino Country Club in Chiba, Japan, where Tiger Woods won his 82nd career Tour event at the inaugural ZOZO Championship in 2019.
This is a limited-field, no-cut event, with 78 players set for four rounds of stroke play.
Olympic Gold medalist Xander Schauffele is the betting favorite at sportsbooks, with +600 odds after he topped the Olympic leaderboard in Japan just two months ago.
Collin Morikawa is next with +750 odds on betting sites, coming off a runner-up finish at last week’s CJ Cup. Paul Casey is third at +1400, while Hideki Matsuyama (+1600) and Will Zalatoris (+1800) round out the top five with oddsmakers.

ZOZO Championship Expert Pick & Betting Tips
Carlos Ortiz Top-10 Finish
Odds: +400 at DraftKings ➜
We cashed on Aaron Wise +450 for a top-10 finish on betting apps last week at the CJ Cup, and we’ve got another top-10 finish play this week in Japan.
Carlos Ortiz is coming off a solid T-25 finish at the CJ Cup, and we like what we saw from his game. Ortiz was fifth in the field in Strokes Gained Approach and seventh in Strokes Gained Tee to Green in Vegas. He would have been in serious contention with a little more cooperation from the flat stick. Ortiz finished near the bottom of the field in Strokes Gained Putting, but the ball striking was on point all four rounds.
Ortiz’s game has been ramping up ever since a midseason slump earlier this year, and we expect good things from him in Japan. We’re on Ortiz for a top-10 finish with his golf odds set at +400.
ZOZO Championship Betting Tips
This is only the second Tour event ever in Japan. Most guys in the field have only seen this course one time at most, and many will have fresh eyes when they tee off at Narashino Country Club. That means course history is mostly out the window, unless you want to consider how certain players performed here in 2019.
We’re going mostly off recent form and also placing a premium on par-3 scoring from last season. This is a par-70 layout with five par 3s, which is highly unusual. Woods didn’t make a bogey on any par 3s and played them eight-under-par for the week when he won the 2019 ZOZO at 19-under for the week.
Strokes Gained Approach is always important, and we’re looking at a combo of ball striking, par-3 scoring and recent form to size up the field for the 2021 ZOZO.
