Zurich Classic Odds, Betting Predictions & Expert Picks To Back

Cue the walk-up music, dig into the gumbo and grab an adult beverage or two – it’s time for the Zurich Classic in New Orleans.

This is one of the most unusual golf betting weeks of the year, with Tour pros pairing up for two-man teams in a combined best ball/alternate shot stroke-play event at TPC Louisiana.

It all adds up to a big party atmosphere in the Bayou, where players can cut loose a bit and enjoy what’s still a very hotly-contested tournament over the weekend.

The super team of Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland is currently favored to win with +650 odds on betting sites and betting apps – Morikawa missed the cut last year with Matthew Wolff, while Hovland was T-25 playing with fellow Norwegian Kris Ventura.

RBC Heritage runner-up Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele are next on the board with golf odds of +800, while Ryan Palmer and reigning Masters champ Scottie Scheffler are third at +900. Palmer won this tournament playing with Jon Rahm in 2019 and has landed another star partner for 2022.

Defending champions Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith round out the top four at +1000 – Smith is now a two-time Zurich champion having won with Jonas Blixt in 2017.

2022 Zurich Classic Picks & Predictions

Billy Horschel clearly loves this event. He won it in 2018 with playing partner Scott Piercy and finished T-4 last year with Burns. Probably a good idea for these two to stick together in the Big Easy – Horschel has finished T-13 or better in each of his past three starts here, and he also won the event in 2013 when it was still an individual event.

Both guys are playing well at the moment, with Burns coming off a win at the Valspar Championship and Horschel finishing T-21 or better in six of his last seven starts. These two should complement each other nicely once again. Burns is totally dialed in with the irons at 10th on Tour in Strokes Gained Approach. Horschel has been inconsistent there, but he’s 29th in Strokes Gained Off The Tee. Both guys are also inside the top 35 on Tour in Strokes Gained Putting.

We’re on Sam Burns and Billy Horschel to win with +1200 odds at DraftKings.

2022 Zurich Classic Betting Tips

Most of the normal strategy goes out the window this week. While there is course history to rely on, these are team results and not really applicable in terms of performance expectations for new teams. It’s also the only time all year guys play alternate shot on Tour, which can throw off some players regardless of current form.

We do believe team chemistry is important this week. We saw it again last year with good friends and fellow Aussies Marc Leishman and Cam Smith getting it done in a playoff over the all-South Africa team of Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel. We’d recommend targeting teams that are either friendly off the golf course or have experience playing together before. They should fare better than random pairings from players who just wanted to get in the field and needed a partner.

This event isn’t comparable to a Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup, but that’s the only other time of year players go out for alternate shot. That format comprises half of this tournament, so we’d highly recommend checking alternate shot records from said events with all those who have participated.
