4 NFC East Starting Quarterback Prop Bets Worth Backing

The expectations are high for each of the four starting quarterbacks in the NFC East — Dak Prescott of the Cowboys, Carson Wentz of the Eagles, Daniel Jones of the Giants and Dwayne Haskins of the Redskins.

Prescott and Wentz lead teams with high goals, and each has reason to expect big things individually in 2020. Jones and Haskins are coming off mixed-bag rookie years with improved supporting casts.

But which of the four, if any, will exceed expectations, at least in terms of the lines placed on them by oddsmakers?

Carson Wentz — Over 3,899.5 Yards Passing (-121)

4 NFC East Starting Quarterback Prop Bets Worth Backing 1

Wentz last season passed for 4,039 yards and 27 TDs, and that was with a mishmash of overmatched receivers. His top-two targets on the year were both tight ends, and RB Miles Sanders was third despite starting just 11 games.

TEs Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert and Sanders are back, and starting WRs Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson are fully healed, as is an offensive line that was banged up all year. The Eagles used a first-round pick on another target, WR Jalen Reagor.

The pieces are in place for Wentz to have a big fifth pro season. If he plays at least 15 games, and most of his targets do as well, 3,900 yards seems very realistic. Take the Over at FanDuel.

Daniel Jones — Over 3,800.5 Yards Passing (-110)

Considering the turmoil and personnel issues around him, Jones had a pretty solid rookie season in New York. He passed for 3,027 yards with 24 TDs and 12 INTs in 12 starts. His 61.9 completion percentage was better than any of his college seasons.

Expect bigger things in Year Two. Jones was the only player to reliably stay on the field last year. Saquon Barkley should be healthy, and his receiving corps is back. WRs Sterling Shepard and Golden Tate and TE Evan Engram missed a combined 19 games in 2019.

New York shored up its brutal offensive line, adding no fewer than three starters in free agency and the draft, including tackle Andrew Thomas with the No. 4 overall pick. If Jones can pass for 3,000 yards in 12 games without much help, he can pass for 3,800 this go-around. Take the Over on Jones passing yards at DraftKings .

Dak Prescott — Under 4,400.5 Yards Passing (-110)

Prescott went wild in 2019, passing for 4,902 yards and 30 TDs, both career highs by a wide margin. But the Cowboys finished with their worst record in Prescott’s four seasons (8-8).

Enter new coach Mike McCarthy, who had QB greatness in Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers. But McCarthy also tried very hard (usually in vain) to establish the run first. He relied on A-Rod when it fell apart. It’s less likely to fall apart with Ezekiel Elliott carrying the rock.

Expect Prescott’s passing numbers to come back to earth in 2020. Last year he passed for more than 1,000 yards over what he had in any previous season. Look for more offensive balance in Dallas. Take the Under on Prescott yards passing at PointsBet .

Dwayne Haskins — MVP (+15000)

Sportsbooks aren’t posting any Over/Under season odds for Haskins. In fact, there are no available individual props for the second-year Redskins quarterback. Maybe that’s because the books aren’t even sure Haskins will be the starter.

New Redskins head coach Ron Rivera has yet to announce who will be under center for Week 1 and that has opened up speculation. Odds that were up involving Haskins was regarding which QB will be Washington’s Week 1 starter (Haskins was a solid -177, followed by Kyle Allen at +150 and Cam Newton at +700). They’ve since been taken down.

So our only Haskins option is to go for the glory.

Haskins was thrown into the fire in the middle of his rookie season of 2019. It did not go great, but Washington's entire team last year was awful. Haskins threw for seven TDs and seven INTs and the team typically performed far better with him under center than anyone else.

He deserves a chance in Washington under Rivera, and he should get it. And let’s not forget, Haskins was a destroyer of defenses in college. His one starting season at Ohio State, he passed for 4,831 yards with 50 TDs. If you dare, take Haskins for MVP at BetMGM.
