Projected 2020 NCAA Tournament No. 1 Seeds
Kansas
Current title odds: +625
Conference tournament impact: Kansas survived a 66-62 win at Texas Tech in the season finale to preserve a 16-game winning streak entering the Big 12 Tournament. The Jayhawks first play the winner of Oklahoma State-Iowa State, with a potential rematch against No. 4 Baylor in the semifinals. Kansas already has a No. 1 seed locked up, but a decisive title run this week would likely drop their National Championship odds considering the competition.
Gonzaga
Current title odds: +850
Conference tournament impact: Gonzaga is finally back in action Monday night after more than a week off, taking on San Francisco in a WCC Tournament semifinal. The Bulldogs should roll the Dons for a third time this season and cruise to their seventh title in eight years. Those +850 odds don’t look juicy enough for a team that, like Dayton and San Diego State, have faced lackluster competition all year. But the Bulldogs are definitely on track to snag a No. 1 seed for the second straight season.
Baylor
Current title odds: +1000
Conference tournament impact: The Bears lost three of their last five and are still considered a shoo-in for a No. 1 seed. It’s been that kind of season. Baylor gets the winner of TCU-Kansas State to start the Big 12 Tournament and will be hoping to see the Jayhawks in the semis after splitting two games in the regular season. This will be the Bears’ first time as a top seed in school history – Just a little added pressure for a team that hasn’t reached the Final Four since 1950.
Dayton
Current title odds: +1100
Conference tournament impact: The Flyers finished the regular season on a 20-game win streak and face the winner of UMass-VCU Friday. Wooden Award betting favorite Obi Toppin should carry them to their first conference tournament title since 2003. There’s also no reason to think Dayton can’t compete with the blue bloods in the NCAA Tournament. The only losses this year are to Colorado and No. 1 Kansas, both in overtime. This is the year to ignore conference and prestige when looking at college basketball futures, especially when said team has maybe the best player in the country.
