Fresh off a remarkable playoff run, the Portland Trail Blazers have added a few pieces to last season’s West Finals squad and should once again contend. Whether they can get over the hump remains to be seen, but the wide-openness of the conference gives them a fighting chance. We’ve seen how far a red-hot Damian Lillard can take a team.
Here’s the key odds available and how you should bet them:
Blazers Win-Total Betting
The Line: 47.5 with SugarHouse
Death, taxes, the Blazers exceeding win totals. The Blazers have gone over in five of the last six seasons, and there’s no reason to think they won’t do so again. This is a talented group with great homecourt advantage, meaning a 50-win season is in play.
The Bet: We like the over again. Bet on it.
Blazers Northwest Division Odds
The Line: +275 with DraftKings
The Northwest is a gauntlet at the top, and for now the Blazers are still a notch below the Nuggets and Jazz. It’s tough to see Portland beating both those teams in the regular season.
The Bet: Avoid these odds.
Blazers Western Conference Odds
The Line: +2100 with FanDuel
The talent is there, but the Blazers need to learn to win on the road. They’re 4-14 away from Portland the last five seasons. It’s impossible to advance to the Finals without some road grit, and Portland hasn’t shown it during their current run. It won’t be easy this season with both LA teams, Houston, Denver and Utah having such great homecourt advantages.
The Bet: Stay away from these odds.
Blazers NBA Title Odds
The Line: +3600 with 888sport
A healthy Jusuf Nurkic could be the difference. The Blazers were cruising when he went down with that horrific leg injury. If he’s back to his old self, and Lillard and CJ McCollum do the heavy lifting, there’s potential here. Whiteside will make them a better defensive team, which they must become to have a chance.
The Bet: We’ll say avoid these odds for now, but they’re a team to watch with new pieces.
Best Blazers Player Prop Bets
Whiteside led the NBA in rebounding three seasons ago, the last time he got 30+ minutes per game. The Heat didn’t lean on him much his last two seasons in Miami, but the Blazers will need him plenty with Nurkic out. He’s also in a contract year, so effort and motivation won’t be lacking.
The Bet: These are great odds for someone who will be near the top of the leaderboard all season.
