A year ago, there was much excitement surrounding the arrival of Mohamed Salah from Roma, although Liverpool supporters couldn’t have imagined the impact that the Egyptian would have in his first season of English football.

Salah has just signed a five-year deal at the Merseyside club and he will be joined this summer by Naby Keita and Fabinho, with Liverpool getting some early business done ahead of preparation for the 2018/19 season.

Keita has been a done deal for quite some time, with the 23-year-old identified as someone who can fit into the Liverpool way, with the Guinea international having impressed for Red Bull Salzburg and then RB Leipzig.

Liverpool have also signed Fabinho, a capture that went under the radar although he becomes yet another Brazilian signing and will sure to have a close bond with Roberto Firmino at the club.

The midfielder has been ever present for Monaco over the past five seasons and Jurgen Klopp feels as though he can help Liverpool go from top four material to Premier League title challengers.

Even so, it might be a tall order for the Reds to bridge the gap with Manchester City in one season, even if Pep Guardiola hasn’t done any business of note this summer.

City were streets ahead of the competition last time out and will have Bernard Mendy returning as left-back and a fresh Leroy Sane determined to prove a point after missing out on the German squad for the World Cup.

Kevin de Bruyne, David Silva and Raheem Sterling will return from the World Cup ready to challenge again, while we might expect improvements from John Stones, Kyle Walker and Ben Foden in the defensive positions too.

Manchester United can never be ignored but Jose Mourinho has not had the desired impact in the past two seasons and perhaps his style of football won’t win any further Premier League titles.

Tottenham look more progressive although they still rely on Harry Kane for goals and there are also new ground issues which could affect home form, while Arsenal will have Unai Emery adjusting to English football and reshaping a squad left by Arsene Wenger.

Chelsea appear to be in disarray, with Maurizio Sarri potentially replacing Antonio Conte and there is also a question mark over the commitment of Roman Abramovich.
