Ed Walker’s CARADOC cost 270,00gns as a yearling and while that doesn’t guarantee anything, he’s certainly made a good start to his career. Building on the considerable promise he showed on his Kempton debut in December, he fairly sprinted clear of his rivals on his return to action at Chelmsford over a similar trip to today’s, winning by a comfortable five lengths. So strong at the finish there that Pat Cosgrave had a job pulling him up and went on to complete another circuit, the imposing son of Camelot looks destined for bigger things and a 6lb penalty might not be enough to stop him doubling his tally this afternoon.

He’s a backable price too thanks to the presence of Mount Ararat, another son of Sea The Stars who finished a promising third on his 1m2f all-weather debut. Dropping back to a mile could find him out, though, and a bigger stumbling block to the selection looks to be Charlie Appleby’s Swiss Knight, a 475,000gns yearling who put up a fine effort to run a 90-rated runner close on his racecourse debut. But this is is his first run since, an absence of 193 days, and the selection can make his race fitness tell.
