Former champion jockey Richard Hughes has already sent out five winners in his first full season as a Flat trainer and he can strike in this evening’s 1m handicap at Kempton (6.20pm) with BUNBURY, who can be backed at a tasty 11/2.

The four-year-old never made it to the track when with John Gosden last season, but this full brother to Group 2 winner Zacinto has shown progressive form in his three starts for Hughes, culminating in an eye-catching fifth in a decent handicap over a half furlong further at Windsor earlier this month. Dropped out early and after not getting the best of runs through the race, he was noted keeping on well close to home and definitely gave the impression he could have finished a lot closer.

That run qualified him for a handicap mark and it’s potentially a generous one of 74. He’s probably not the only well handicapped runner in the field, mind, and Paul Webber’s New Agenda (5/1) certainly looks well treated on his latest Wolverhampton second, with the winner and third doing their bit to advertise the form since. However, he’s been off for 71 days, whereas the selection should be spot on, and his stable is a less than encouraging 1-30 (3%) with all runners here. That said, he could still be worth a small saver in an open contest.
