UFC Vegas 32: Sandhagen vs Dillashaw Odds & Betting Preview

Jed Meshew | 8 mins

The UFC returns to ESPN on Saturday and, like always, it is delivering a big fight with big names. In the main event, former two-time bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw is back after a two-year hiatus when he faces off against second-ranked Cory Sandhagen in a fight that will almost certainly guarantee the winner a title shot.
It’s a weekend of big bantamweight action with some other great fights as well, and it should provide some great opportunities for wagering at UFC betting sites.

It’s not every day you get a main event this intriguing, in part because the circumstances here are extremely rare. At his best, Dillashaw was an extremely talented fighter with a slick, shift-heavy striking style that used footwork and movement to frustrate his opponents and create openings. However, after testing positive for EPO in the aftermath of his failed flyweight title bid against Henry Cejudo in 2019, Dillashaw was suspended for two years. As such, we don’t have a great idea what he will look like in his return.
Dillashaw maintains that the time off was beneficial as it allowed him to properly heal some injuries he’d been nursing for a long time and improve his skills, but we won’t know for sure until the cage door closes.
In contrast, Sandhagen has nothing resembling ring rust. One of the rising stars in the UFC, Sandhagen actually fought on the card at Dillashaw’s last fight and has since added five more bouts to his resume, including a Knockout of the Year candidate performance against Frankie Edgar back in February.
Sandhagen is also about movement and shifts, but he’s an even more aggressive striker, landing nearly seven significant strikes per minute, third in the UFC. On Saturday, Sandhagen will look to use that volume to break the former champion and stake his claim for the title.

UFC Vegas 32: Sandhagen vs Dillashaw Best Bet
Considering his long layoff and the fact that the last time we saw him he was getting knocked out, it’s not surprising that Dillashaw finds himself the underdog at top sportsbooks and betting sites coming into this event. However, the line here is just a bit too generous for Sandhagen.
Sandhagen is a talented offensive threat, but Dillashaw’s defense is excellent and his ability to counter with power should keep things even on the feet. Though often forgotten about, Dillashaw’s wrestling will be the difference here as Sandhagen has shown some liability on the mat. I believe Dillashaw picks right back up from where he left off, and thus he’s a good bet to win at +160 on FanDuel ➜.
UFC Vegas 32: Other Bets To Consider
Aspen Ladd vs. Macy Chiasson: Ladd and Chiasson are two rising prospects in the UFC’s bantamweight division but despite being younger by several years, Ladd is simply the better fighter. She works at a higher volume, is a much better wrestler, and has beaten much better competition than Chiasson. Chiasson’s main advantage in this fight will be her physicality, but Ladd is no slouch there either.
Ladd by decision is currently +165 on BetMGM ➜ and that’s a bet worth taking on your sports betting app.
Miranda Maverick vs. Maycee Barber: This is a bout between up-and-coming female prospects and as with the above, one fighter is better than the other right now. Barber came into the UFC with big aspirations and talent but has plateaued harshly, showing poor fight I.Q. and a questionable attitude towards growth.
Maverick, meanwhile, flew under the radar with her signing but has since shined, and appears to be the kind of fighter Barber wanted to be. Unless Barber has made huge strides on the mental side of things, Maverick should win this by being the smarter, more mature fighter, so take advantage of Miranda Maverick by Decision at +115 on BetMGM ➜.
