UFC Vegas 56 Main Event Best Bet

Alexander Volkov (-160) vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik (+140)

The main event of UFC Vegas 56 is a five-round heavyweight bout between Volkov and Rozenstruik. It’s an interesting fight, but I favor Volkov to win as a -160 favorite on betting sites.

Now 33 years of age, Volkov first joined the UFC in 2016, and since then he has racked up an 8-4 record inside the Octagon. Volkov has fought many of the best heavyweights in the sport, and he has picked up some notable victories over the likes of Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum.

He is an excellent striker who stands 6’7” and who uses every bit of his 80-inch reach. It’s difficult to defeat Volkov on the feet, although he has holes in his ground game. In his last fight, for instance, Tom Aspinall submitted him in the first round. However, Rozenstruik doesn’t present any danger as far as the ground game goes, so this should mostly be a standup fight.

At 34 years of age, Rozenstruik is also one of the UFC heavyweight division’s top contenders. He joined the UFC in 2019 and since then has picked up a 6-3 record inside the Octagon, with notable wins over the likes of Junior dos Santos and the aforementioned Overeem.

In fact, all six of his UFC wins have come by knockout. However, unless he knocks his opponent out, he’s rather limited as an MMA fighter as he doesn’t throw much striking volume on the feet and his ground game is non-existent. He always has a puncher’s chance, and his best path to winning against Volkov would be to catch him with a huge punch and put his lights out.

Although Rozenstruik could win by KO, I believe the most likely way this fight plays out is with Volkov controlling the range and winning a decision. Give me Volkov to win at -155 at DraftKings and take him by decision at +260 odds for better value on your dollar.

The Pick: Alexander Volkov wins at -160 with DraftKings

Alternative Pick: Alexander Volkov wins by decision at +260 with FanDuel

Other UFC Vegas 56 Predictions

Tony Gravely (-125) vs. Johnny Munoz (+105)

In bantamweight action on the preliminary card, Tony Gravely takes on Johnny Munoz. This should be a good fight, and one I believe the underdog Munoz can win at +105 odds on betting apps.

Munoz is 29 years old and he joined the UFC in 2020. After losing a close decision to Nate Maness in his Octagon debut, Munoz returned to the cage in 2021 and finished Jamey Simmons by submission. In fact, that was Munoz’s 11th career victory – and his seventh by way of submission. He is ultra-dangerous on the ground, and if he can get this fight with Gravely down to the mat, then Munoz stands an excellent chance of scoring a submission victory. The fact he’s four inches taller and has a two-inch reach advantage also helps Munoz.

Gravely, meanwhile, is 30 years old. He, too, joined the UFC in 2020, and since then has racked up a 3-2 record in the Octagon. Gravely’s wrestling has been dominant at times, as he took down his last opponent 11 times en route to a victory. However, I believe Gravely’s willingness to fight on the ground helps his opponent Munoz in this fight. While Gravely is excellent at wrestling, his submission defense is quite poor - he has been submitted five times in his MMA career.

Look for Gravely to take Munoz down, but at some point look for Munoz to either take his back and sink in a rear-naked choke for the victory or grab his arm from his guard and submit him with an armbar. I like Munoz here as a +105 underdog, and the submission prop at +280 odds is also worth taking a stab at given that’s the way Munoz wins his fights and how Gravely loses his.

The Pick: Johnny Munoz Jr. wins at +105 with DraftKings

Alternative Pick: Johnny Munoz Jr. wins by submission at +280 with FanDuel

Jeff Molina (-180) vs. Zhalgas Zhumagulov (+155)

In a flyweight bout also on the preliminary card, Jeff Molina takes on Zhalgas Zhumagulov. This should be a fun fight to watch, but I like the favorite Molina to get the job done at -180 odds.

Only 24 years old, Molina is already 2-0 in the UFC with wins over Daniel Da Silva and Aoriqileng. He trains with James Krause at Glory MMA and Fitness and he is a young fighter who is improving every time he steps into the cage. Molina is a very good striker and he is also working on his ground game. He’s not ranked in the top-15 yet, but I suspect if he defeats Zhumagulov there is a chance he could be bumped up into the official UFC rankings. Molina also has a notable two-inch height and three-inch reach advantage in this contest.

As for Zhumagulov, he is 33 years old and has just a 1-3 record in the UFC. To be fair to Zhumagulov, he has fought some pretty tough competition so far inside the Octagon, but that is not a good record and it shows to me he might not be UFC-caliber. He is a solid striker with some submission skills, but he doesn’t really present any danger that Molina hasn’t already seen.

Give me Molina to win this fight over Zhumagulov as a -180 favorite. I believe he will win the fight by decision, so you can also take a look at that prop, which is at +130 odds.

The Pick: Jeff Molina wins at -180 with DraftKings

Alternative Pick: Jeff Molina wins by decision at +130 with FanDuel
